Comic Relief 2019: Mamma Mia! sequel spoof leaves fans ‘crying with laughter’ as Jennifer Saunders transforms into Cher AND Meryl Streep for hilarious sketch

Fans were ecstatic as the on-screen father and daughter shared a sweet moment before Lily waltzed up the aisle, her arm linked with Hugh, before she married Alicia.

In character, Hugh said: ‘Not too late to run, it’s a family tradition. I can order you an uber.’

She responded: ‘I’m a much better human than you.’

As the original film charts how Charles (Grant) and Carrie (Andie Macdowell) keep crossing paths before they finally are romantically united at the end of the movie, it’s a given they are given a special moment in the spoof.

It’s real love: Comic Relief viewers were joyful as Lily James and Alicia Vikander married in heart-rendering scenes for Four Weddings And A Funeral’s spoof on Friday night

Famously in the 1994 adaptation, Charles pledges lifelong commitment to Carrie without the pair officially making their love official with marriage vows.

In the spoof, he remarks having watched the wedding: ‘Maybe I should have asked you to marry you that day… Was it raining? I didn’t notice.’

Comic Relief’s two-part Mamma Mia! sequel spoof segment left viewers in hysterics as Jennifer Saunders morphed into Cher and Meryl Streep’s characters in the funny sketch.

The Absolutely Fabulous star, 60, hilariously recreated the stand-out moment from the second movie where Cher takes to the stage to belt out the lyrics of Fernando.

Social media was awash with praise for the actress as viewers remarked she ‘nailed’ both very different parts when she impersonated the two stars for the comic moment.

‘Crying with laughter at Jennifer Saunders’ interpretation of Meryl Streep on Comic Relief :D,’ one fan wrote, leading the troops on social media.

As Jennifer took on the role of Meryl’s character Donna, she joked she wasn’t in the second movie at all despite being the first film’s protagonist. ‘Am I in this at all?’ She said as Meryl.

Other highlights included hilariously shaming Pierce Brosnan’s questionable singing in the movie as the show said his character was the ‘one who couldn’t sing’.

The spoof also made fun of the fact the story is set in Greece but the filmmakers decided to film in Croatia instead.

She’s back: Keeley Hawes’ character returned from the dead on Friday night in a Bodyguard spoof for Comic Relief 2019

Elsewhere in the show, Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes drove fans wild when they reunited for the hotly-anticipated Bodyguard spoof segment.

Speculation is rife that Julia Montague will return from the dead in Bodyguard season two after the prime minister was ‘killed off’ in the fourth episode of season one.

In funny scenes, it did exactly that when Keely clambered into the back of the taxi where she demanded to know whether she would be in the second series.

She then asked Richard’s character: ‘Do you know if I’m in series two?’, to which he bluntly replied with: ‘You are dead…’, with Keeley cryptically adding: ‘Am I?’

Bodyguard: Show watchers have been adamant that Julia is still alive, despite the gripping BBC series killing her off

Meanwhile, earlier on in the segment, things got a bit crude when Richard joked about getting his ‘Glock’ out.

Before he was assigned to protecting Lumley’s role, he had to go through a series of stringent questions.

In an awkward moment, Dani Dyer admitted reaching the top of Mount Kilimanjaro was ‘definitely’ better than winning Love Island with her beau Jack Fincham.

Love Island’s queen Dani didn’t hesitate when Zoe probed the EastEnders actor’s daughter over which moment she was more proud of.

She said: ‘Definitely Mount Kilimanjaro.’

In a touching sequence from the Mount Kilimanjaro trek, Shirley Ballas recalled the moment her brother took his own life in December 2003.

She said: ‘My brother took his own life, his partner found him. There was no note, no goodbye, 16 years ago. If my brother had someone to go to i truly believe he would still be here.’

Elsewhere in the show, Lenny Henry took a special moment to honor the memory of Louis Tomlinson’s late sister Félicité after the former One Direction star pulled out of the Comic Relief appearance following her passing.

In a touching speech, the television personality expressed his sadness as he sent his love to Louis and his family following the news of their ‘sudden tragic loss’.

Addressing Louis’ absence, Lenny said: ‘Sudden tragic loss of his sister. The love and best wishes go out to Louis and his family at this terrible time.’

The One Direction star, 27, was due to perform his new single which was written about his late mother Johannah, who died from cancer in 2016.

Félicité, 18, was found dead at her Earls Court, West London home from a suspected heart attack on Wednesday lunchtime, leaving Louis ‘devastated’.
