Drake’s Grammy speech sensationally cut off while he slams the ceremony

Drake’s Grammy acceptance was sensationally cut short as he criticised the awards ceremony.

The Canadian rapper – who has a tempestuous history with the industry bash – was honoured for his hit single God’s Plan in the Best Rap Song category.

But after taking to the stage to give his thanks for the gong, Drake appeared to take an aim at the Academy.

Blasting the way prizes were voted for, Drake fired into the mic: "We play in an opinion-based sport, not a fact-based sport."

As he began to gain support from the star-studded crowd, many of whom were on the feet, the sound went dead in the arena with Drake appearing to look around in confusion.

Before he was cut unceremoniously cut off, he did managed to say: "The point is, you’ve already won if you have people who are singing your songs word for word, if you’re a hero in your hometown.

"Look , if there’s people who have regular jobbs who are coming out in the rain and snow, spending money to buy tickets to your shows, you don’t need this right here. You already won."

Drake previously said he had been offered a performance slot at the 2019 Grammys but turned it down.

But despite his snub, Drake came home a winner after seeing off competition from Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.

After his speech was cut short, viewers took to Twitter to speculate on whether the silencing had been deliberate or not.

"Drake’s speech was so nice, but he got cut off :(" said one.

"Hey, Drake was going somewhere with that speech," added another.

A fourth agreed: "Can u believe Drake gave the best speech of this year’s Grammys and they literally cut him off uhhhhh okay."
