Is it OK to wear heels when you're pregnant?

Meghan Markle has regularly been seen wearing heels during her pregnancy, despite women being advised against doing so in their second trimester.

Many women do wear heels through their nine months, but doctors encourage women to shun them for health and safety reasons.

When you wear heels for a long time, your calf muscles are in a contracted position.

This leads to cramps in the muscles, which may be aggravated during pregnancy.

High heels are supposed to alter your posture.

Your pelvic muscles are bent forward, giving a rounder shape to your back.

However, during pregnancy a woman gains a considerable amount of weight around the front and this change in posture will cause pain.

The ligaments in the lower back and legs are also loosened during pregnancy, so wearing heels puts excess pressure on the pelvic and back joints, since the support is inadequate.

This results in aches around joints and ligaments of the lower back and pelvic area.

When wearing heels during pregnancy, there is also a higher probability of losing balance and tripping over, causing injury to you and your unborn child, as hormonal balances and added weight can weaken the ankles.

A medical condition known as oedema or swelling in legs, ankles and feet is also quite common during pregnancy. It's often caused by a build-up of fluid in these areas, explains the NHS.

Is she planning on returning to Suits?

Before she was the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was better known as Rachel Zane, the paralegal turned hot-shot lawyer on US drama, Suits.

With news that the telly series was being axed, Hollywood has been abuzz with rumours the royal might make a final return to the show for its swansong this year.

However, Meghan will not return to her former acting profession, even for a final sojourn.

Instead, she will stay entirely focused on her new role, which involves extensive charity work and looking after her new family in the UK, with her baby due in April.

Meghan remains close friends with many of the Suits cast and will send them her well wishes privately, but understands any cameo appearance would be an unnecessary distraction at this point in time.
