Shocking moment Conor McGregor ‘knocks Brit fan’s phone out of his hand, stamps on it and snatches it’

Footage captured by an onlooker appears to show the UFC star slamming his designer shoe down on fan Ahmed Abdirzak's phone in Miami at around 5am Monday morning.

Abdirzak told TMZ Sports he was trying to snap a pic of Conor on his phone when he lured him in by appearing to offer a handshake, but instead snatched the phone and smashed it.

McGregor’s lawyer has insisted the MMA legend will escape jail after allegedly knocking a phone out of a fan's hand and smashing it.

In theory McGregor could face up to 15 years and a massive fine over claims he took the phone from 22-year-old fan Ahmed Abdirzak outside a club in Miami Beach, Florida, in a "strong-armed robbery" case.

But the 30-year-old Irishman’s lawyer, Sam Rabin, is very confident that McGregor will “successfully defend this case” and will not face any jail time.

"I believe at the end of the day that we will successfully defend this case,”  he told Newstalk Breakfast.

"I can't tell you what the outcome will be, but I certainly don't see him going to jail over something like this,” Rabin added.

McGregor himself said in a statement: “Patience in this world is a virtue I continue to work on. I love my fans dearly. Thank you all.”

Even if McGregor were convicted of the alleged crime, it's highly unlikely he'd been sentenced to a full 15 years given the relatively minor nature of the incident.

The incident happened outside the nightclub Liv – which is part of the Fontainebleu hotel in Miami, Florida.

Abdirzak, claims he feared for his life when the MMA legend allegedly "punched" his iPhone 8 from his hand and repeatedly stamped on it.

The restaurant manager, from Slough, Berks, had been attempting to video McGregor outside a club on Miami Beach on Monday morning when tensions flared.

He insisted he was about 15ft away when he began recording the 30-year-old, who was reportedly shouting lyrics from a rap song.

Ahmed, a dad-of-one, said he thought the star was reaching out his arm to shake his hand when he allegedly grabbed his arm.

I certainly don't see him going to jail over something like this

He told "I looked into his face and his eyes were bulging. Then with his right hand he punched the phone. It was so hard I felt the impact through my entire body."

Ahmed, who was in Florida on a holiday with pals, claims McGregor then stamped on his phone four times before picking it up and putting it in his jeans.

He continued: "He walked away with that trademark McGregor strut that you see him enter the ring with in UFC.

"I'm not going to lie, I was scared for my life – the guy is a lethal weapon."

Ahmed claims he's yet to get his broken phone – full of family pictures – back.

Dubliner McGregor has been charged with strong-arm robbery and misdemeanour criminal mischief.

Last night, Ahmed's brother Noah told The Sun Online: "He is very shaken and upset. He’s a big fan of Conor McGregor. We both watch UFC MMA. That is why he tried to take a picture of him."

Speaking from the family home in Slough, he said he was not sure if Ahmed had asked for McGregor's permission before taking the photo.

He added Ahmed works in his father's Somalian restaurant in Southall, west London and the brothers are big Arsenal fans.

Meanwhile, McGregor released a short statement after he was released having posted a $12,500 (£9,450) bond vowing to continue to work on his "patience" while declaring his admiration for his supporters.

He said: "Patience in this world is a virtue I continue to work on. I love my fans dearly. Thank you all."

The Irish UFC star was not arrested at the scene but police later found him at a house on North Venetian Drive, according to a local report.

He was then taken to Miami-Dade jail on Monday night and had his mugshot taken.

His lawyer Samuel Rabin said that McGregor "was involved in a minor altercation involving a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement".

"Mr McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation."

The arrest comes a year after he attacked a bus carrying UFC fighters including Khabib Nurmagomedov in New York.

McGregor pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge and was sentenced to three days of anger management courses and five days of community service.

He was suspended from UFC for six months and fined $50,000

McGregor has been on holiday with his family in Florida ahead of a UFC comeback.

The 30-year-old jetted off to the sunshine state to celebrate mum Margaret's 60th birthday.

So far they have enjoyed a lavish dinner at the Versace mansion before taking time to visit Miami's Sea Life aquarium.

And the holidays continued as McGregor showed his daring side by getting in the arena with an alligator.

He uploaded pictures of the duel and managed to grab the reptile by its tail.
