John Mulaney’s friend, Pete Davidson, has been known to spend time with celebrities you might not expect. From his romances with Ariana Grande and Kate Beckinsale to his friendship with rapper Machine Gun Kelly. Even his pairing up with Mulaney, a fellow stand-up, was a bit surprising to many. But clearly, this is a guy who knows people, and there’s never been better evidence of that than his recent star-studded sushi dinner with Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and a couple of others.
Davidson thought he was just having dinner with a friend
Appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, the host shared a photo of West, actor Timothée Chalamet, rapper Kid Cudi, and Davidson, all sitting around a table in a restaurant. Fallon insisted on finding out the story behind it, and boy, it’s a fun one.
Davidson said that this occurred earlier this year when Kid Cudi invited him out to Nobu, a famous chain of expensive sushi restaurants. “So I got there early so I could give him my card — I thought it was just like us three,” he said, as the rapper had indicated that his manager would also be there. “You know, buy my boy a birthday dinner,” adding that Kid Cudi is “the best musician that’s ever lived,” in his opinion.
Then, more big stars began to show up
After sitting down and ordering, Davidson said that Chalamet showed up. The Saturday Night Live star was joking that this was cool, because “everyone’s skinny,” (meaning they probably wouldn’t eat much). “Then, Cudi goes, ‘Hey, Kim and Kanye might come by.’ And I was like, ‘That would be awesome.’ And then I was like, ‘Oh no,’” he laughed.
Things changed when West and Kardashian showed up. They got a private room, and Kanye ordered “that stuff that’s not even on the menu — that crazy stuff.” “I’m texting my tour agent like, ‘yo, you gotta book more shows,’” said Davidson. In the end, he said the cost “wasn’t actually as bad as you would think.” And he only had nice things to say about the Kardashian and West, calling them “the cutest couple ever. Very, very sweet people.”
Did Davidson and Beckinsale break up?
In the interview with Fallon, Davidson talked about how much he loved video games, even doing a shoutout to Mortal Kombat 11, which he’s a spokesperson for. In fact, he’s building an arcade of sorts at his own house, which he shares with his mom. He went on to talk about his basement “apartment,” which he lovingly referred to as a “man cave,” and he also called himself “lonely” at one point.
So why is Davidson living with his mother? Well, he paid for at least some of it, so its natural that he would want to live there. It doesn’t sound as though Davidson and Beckinsale have broken up at this time, but since they’re both busy people, maybe they’re taking it slow. (And, an interesting fact — Beckinsale appeared on Fallon just two days before Davidson, which doesn’t seem like a coincidence.)
Still, while they’ve been seen out in public together, and have acknowledged their relationship without saying one another’s name, we’re still waiting on the next step: The Instagram official announcement. Now that Davidson is back on the ‘gram, we’ll be waiting for the day they post about each other on social media for all the world to see.
