FBI agents have arrested a woman caught on camera fatally running over a nail salon employee who tried to stop her from walking out without paying for a $35 manicure.
Krystal Whipple, 21, was taken into custody without incident by the FBI Phoenix Violent Crime Task Force in Arizona nearly two weeks after the deadly parking lot confrontation, according to the Glendale Police Department.
Whipple is facing felony charges of murder, robbery and burglary, according to court records obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Nhu “Annie” Ngoc Nguyen, a 53-year-old mother of three, was working at Crystal Nails & Spa on Dec. 29 when Whipple told her that she was going to her car to get cash after her credit card was repeatedly declined.
Graphic surveillance footage released by police shows Whipple attempting to drive away when Nguyen, along with her longtime boyfriend and salon co-manager, Sonny Chung, race out to stop her.
Nguyen can be seen running toward Whipple’s car, a rented Chevrolet Camaro that had been reported stolen. She then clutches the front of the vehicle while Chung holds onto the back as it begins to speed off. Chung continues to cling to the car as it runs over Nguyen, who was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Officers found the Camaro at a nearby apartment complex. They used receipts and fingerprints in the car to identify Whipple as the suspect, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
