6 Skincare Tips Ellen Pompeo, 51, Does To Keep Her Glow

Ellen Pompeo has literally aged 16 years since season one of Grey’s Anatomy first aired back in 2005. And yet, she somehow still looks pretty much the same?? At 51, she barely wears any makeup (in part for her character and in part by choice), says she doesn’t use botox or fillers, and she still manages to have a youthful glow. (Just look at these no-makeup pics.)

So, what’s the trick? Maybe that she takes aging in stride.”I think the overall goal of my life is to always keep my ego in check,” the actress told Dax Shepard on his podcast, Armchair Expert. “I don’t want to tell myself lies, I don’t lie about my age, I don’t put anything in my face. I don’t want to tell myself any lies, I’m not doing myself any favors.” With that said, Ellen does say that she does think about her appearance as she feels it’s a part of her job as an actress. “I think it’s important for me to look as good as I can look. I get paid to keep up my appearance, so I feel like I need to keep up my end of it,” she told Into The Gloss in 2015. So, here’s everything she’s shared to do just that.

She believes in a 5-minute routine.

Back in 2019 Ellen became a spokesperson for Cindi Crawford’s skincare line, Meaningful Beauty. When asked by New Beauty what her five minute routine consisted of, the actress responded, “I use the cleanser, the melon serum and the day cream with SPF if I’m going to be in the sun.”

She prefers “frequency facials”over botox.

Ellen told New Beauty that her favorite discover of 2019 was “requency facials with Joanna Vargas.” She elaborated saying, “I don’t love fillers or Botox, so I have to get a lot of facials and drink a ton of water. I feel like the frequency facial makes a difference in my skin—it makes it tighter.”

She believes beauty is an inside job.

“Beauty comes from what kind of person you are and what your contribution is to the world, and you should focus more on that than your physical appearance,” Ellen shared with New Beauty. “Obviously everyone wants to look their best, but I think that confident women are the most beautiful, and confidence comes from other things—how kind you are or how you help the world—not from what you look like.”

Her best advice: Leave your face alone.

When asked by US Weekly what the best beauty advice she ever received was, she first replied with drinking water but then quickly came to the realization, “Oh, and don’t touch your face. Don’t do things to your face. Everyone things they look amazing but what they don’t realize is that everyone looks the same.”

She uses coconut oil as a moisturizer.

In that same interview, Ellen was asked what she never leaves the house without to which she replied, “everywhere I go I have a little thing of coconut oil and essential oils so my skin is soft and I smell good.”

She rinses her face in ice water.

“I feel like I’ve always looked younger than I am, and now I’ve started seeing my skin change,” Ellen tells ITG. “Now I do this thing where I fill up a bowl of ice and alkaline water, and I take it to my bathroom, and I splash my face like 10 times, until my face feels frozen. I do it after [cleansing] and I just feel like it tightens everything. Didn’t the old movie stars used to do it? I got this idea that my face feels puffy and it’s sagging, so I thought, ‘Let me just freeze it!’”
