Road Test

This week I try …a stress-busting facial

The lowdown Vaia, at Vaia Beauty, is famous for her skin-balancing Organic Facial based on botanical ingredients and aromatherapy. She starts with a foam cleanser to thoroughly remove make-up and follows it with a secondary milk cleanser. Next comes exfoliation using a gommage to slough away grime and unclog my pores. While she works her massage magic on my face, neck and décolletage, I enjoy some much-needed beauty sleep. She then performs some reiki, applies a hydrating face mask, massages my head and finishes with an arm and hand massage. Nirvana!

Pain factor Bliss.

Downtime Seventy-five minutes.

Results The massage technique is key to this multi-level treatment as it boosts circulation and helps to rid skin of built-up toxins. I float downstairs, where Vaia comments that I look “peaceful”.

Where to get it Sydney: Vaia Beauty, vaiabeauty.com.au. Cost: from $230. Melbourne: Herbario, herbario.com.au. Cost: from $200.

Our latest treasures start with Hermetica’s citrus and oriental unisex scent with bergamot, amber and wood. Then Tom Ford delivers aldehydes wrapped around heliotrope and vanilla. Finally, Gucci serves notes of chamomile, jasmine and sandalwood in another scent equally appealing to girls and boys.

It’s that time of year when you should update your sunscreen in all its forms, including your moisturiser. Australian brand Aspect’s Sun Hydrating Face SPF50+ (aspectskincare.com, $59) is  a four-hour water-resistant moisturiser that shields skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays.

What’s the best way to exfoliate lips?
Scrub them gently in a circular motion using a teaspoon of coconut oil and raw sugar. Remove with a damp wash cloth, then add a rich, nourishing lip balm such as Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (sephora.com.au, $28).
