Alex Beresford’s childhood trauma as he was rushed to hospital on Christmas Day

Alex Beresford Recalls Terrifying Childhood Incident

ITV presenter Alex Beresford has opened up about a traumatic childhood incident that saw him rushed to hospital on Christmas Day.

The Good Morning Britain star has taken part in the BBC’s first celebrity version of Race Across the World with his dad Noel.

In tonight’s episode of the show, celebrities and their chosen travel companions could be seen making the difficult journey from Portugal across to the island of Corsica.

As Alex and his dad sat on a train discussing how they could try to fund their travels, the pair spotted that a restaurant was hiring staff.

However, Alex looked visibly uncomfortable when he discovered that the restaurant specialised in seafood, as he opened up about a terrifying childhood incident which has made him scared to go near fish ever since.

“Come on Alex, it’s about time you got rid of this fear of seafood,” Noel insisted. “This all goes back how many years ago to when you were a young lad.”

When Alex acknowledged that there was a “fishbone incident”, Noel continued: “You had a little fishbone stuck in your throat.

Alex then explained: “It was Christmas Day and it spoilt Christmas Day because I had to go to hospital.

“They had to pull out the bone from my throat and ever since then…” he trailed off and shuddered.

Alex went on to confess that he is “not very adventurous” with a routine that sees him go to the gym four times a week and live on a constant diet of children.

However, the presenter registered that he “lives in a bubble that is about to be burst”, while his dad noted: “He will have to learn very quickly to adapt.”

After a short discussion, Alex agreed that the pair would work in the restaurant and the father and son duo prepared for the next leg of their journey.

As well as Alex, other celebrities taking part in the show include singer Mel Blatt, McFly drummer Harry Judd and British racing driver and pundit Billy Monger.

Celebrity Race Across the World continues next Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
