Alison Hammonds This Morning swipe as she joins forever family on Bake Off

Great British Bake Off teaser trailer

Alison Hammond has taken a “swipe” at This Morning as she gets set to make her Great British Bake Off debut.

The presenter will hit the screens for the baking competition show on Tuesday (September 26) for the first time as she replaces former host, comedian Matt Lucas.

The 48-year-old, who co-hosts ITV’s This Morning alongside Dermot O’Leary had nothing but praise for her new Channel 4 “forever family”.

When asked if joining a new show made her feel like she was “cheating” on her This Morning family she said: “I do a little bit, but do you know what? I feel like I’m with my forever family now.

“They’re a lovely gang and I’m just so happy to be part of it,” she continued telling Daily Mail. “I’m quite sad that filming has come to an end.”

Alison, who has been with This Morning for 21 years, went on to sing the praises of her fellow Bake Off presenters Paul Hollywood and Noel Fielding and, in particular, Prue Leith.

“Prue’s a gentle guiding force, generous, kind and knowledgeable. It’s kind of like having my mum there,” she gushed.

However, she also recently revealed it wasn’t all sprinkles and sugar on the show. The mum-of-one was in fact put through her paces to bag her role.

Show bosses wanted to get a sense of her ability to small talk to gauge how she would handle spontaneous chats with the contestants on the show, so they came up with a novel way to test this.

“For the second audition, I went to a garden centre to see if I could speak to random people,” the This Morning host recalled.

“The dreamiest people came my way. I met a couple who were both 93 and I asked them the secret of a successful marriage, and they gave me advice,” she recollected to Radio Times.

Alison has previously appeared on Bake Off on the other side of the table as a contestant on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, back in 2020.

But hosting wasn’t even something she considered until fans on social media started calling for it.

“The first time I even thought about the job was when Matt Lucas left and Twitter went berserk about me taking his role,” she confessed.
