All hail Queen Coleen! How Rooney is stepping out of Wayne's shadow

All hail Queen Coleen! How Mrs Rooney shed her WAG tag to step out of Wayne’s shadow and become a star in her own right – with THAT bombshell documentary, a tell-all book and even a Vogue cover

Coleen Rooney is often deemed the ultimate WAG – a long-suffering wife with a penchant for designers and unwavering support for her superstar husband.

She met rising star Wayne Rooney at 12, began dating the ace at 16, became engaged at 17, married at 22 before withstanding many indiscretions during his dazzling career – all the while standing on the sidelines raising their three kids.

Yet the tides appear to be turning for Coleen, 37, whose Wagatha Christie court case has seen her catapulted into the spotlight and out of her husband Wayne’s shadow – shifting her title from mother and WAG to media sweetheart.

With a wildly successful Disney+ documentary under her belt, a second memoir soon to hit shelves and a Vogue cover now in her trophy case, Coleen is truly proving herself to no longer be just a ‘WAG’ but a star in her own right.

Brand and culture expert Nick Ede exclusively revealed to MailOnline that the star is tipped to rake in millions: ‘Coleen Rooney has finally spread her wings and if feels that she is now coming of age.. She has literally found her voice and its one that people are loving’.

So how is Coleen losing the WAG title to become a star all her own?

Star: Last month, Disney+ released Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, a limited series which follows the real story behind her legal battle with Rebekah Vardy

DOCUMENTARY: Million Pound Payday

Last month, Disney+ released Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, a limited series which follows the real story behind her legal battle with Rebekah Vardy.

Rebekah took Coleen to the High Court for libel – and lost – after Coleen claimed in October 2019 that stories about her, sourced from her private Instagram, were being leaked to the press from Rebekah’s social media account.

The story began when The Sun ran a number of fake articles about Coleen from September 2017 to October 2019, which came from Coleen’s Instagram.

The Liverpudlian star claimed she only shared the stories with Vardy in a ‘sting’ operation, including claims that she travelled to Mexico to look into baby ‘gender selection’ treatment, a plan to revive her TV career and the flooding of her basement.

Rebekah was on holiday in Dubai with her husband, Leicester striker Jamie, 36, when Coleen made the accusations on Twitter and Instagram about the leaks.

Rising through the ranks: Coleen proved she was the winner

Last month, the Mail revealed Coleen she was paid ‘millions’ for the documentary.

Sources close to Coleen said she was paid in excess of £1 million following a bidding war for the four-part series which aired four years after the battle began.

Originally the documentary was heading in the direction of Disney’s arch rival Netflix but bosses were so keen to get it that they offered the astonishing fee for it.

One source said: ‘What Coleen went through with Becky was pretty awful, there is no doubting that it was a really, really hard time for her and her family.

‘But her show was really in demand, everybody wanted it. Coleen is the one who the public had the most sympathy with and her inside story was always going to be gripping.

‘She kept her counsel a lot more than Becky did throughout so there was always going to be a lot to share in it. But still, it is a lot of money, hopefully that will have made her feel better about losing four years of her life.’

The documentary was made by production companies Dorothy Street Pictures and Lorton Entertainment for Disney and will also be available in America on streaming channel, Hulu in what could end up making the Rooneys household names in the US.

Her man: Wayne also appeared in her documentary to lend his support

Dazzling: She put on a jaw-dropping display at a number of events to mark the launch of the documentary, which won huge praise from fans

Cover girl: Back in August, Coleen sent fans into a frenzy as she broke her years-long silence over her £3million libel case with a stunning British Vogue shoot

VOGUE: Scooping the cover of dreams

Back in August, Coleen sent fans into a frenzy as she broke her years-long silence over her £3million libel case with a stunning British Vogue shoot.

The WAG donned a cream Dior trench coat for the jaw-dropping cover image in front of Liverpool’s iconic Liver Building.

But it was Vogue’s cheeky cover title that really sent Wagatha Christie fans wild, as the publication branded her: ‘Wife, mother, detective, superstar.’

Coleen’s followers were quick to laud the cheeky reference, with one even joking she should land a role in the seventh series of Line Of Duty.

One tweeted: ”Wife, mother, detective, superstar” I am screaming!’ while another added: ‘Hun culture has peaked with this Coleen Rooney British Vogue cover. 10/10 no notes.’

In the interview, Coleen, branded her nemesis, 41, ‘odd’ and said her ‘evil’ texts read in court made her sick.

Rebekah had sued Coleen over an accusation she had leaked details of Coleen’s private life to the press after Coleen had staged an elaborate sting operation to find out who was passing on stories about her to The Sun.

She told Vogue how she came up with a plot to foil the person who had been leaking stories, by planting false stories to her private account and only making them visible to Rebekah’s account but didn’t tell a soul what she was up to, not even a lawyer.

Coleen said: ‘I feel like a lot of people still don’t understand what happened, from beginning to end. But what I said in that post, I still stick by today.’

Speaking out: Last week, Coleen announced she is releasing a new book – My Account. The TV personality revealed she hopes to ‘tell her side of the story’ in the upcoming autobiography

First time round: In 2007, Coleen released her first memoir, Welcome to My World

MEMOIR: Telling her story… in a second autobiography

Last week, Coleen announced she is releasing a new book – My Account. The TV personality revealed she hopes to ‘tell her side of the story’ in the upcoming autobiography.

In 2007, Coleen released her first memoir, Welcome to My World.

Of her new book, publisher Penguin stated: ‘Here, she recounts how she first suspected someone was betraying her trust (and how devastated it left her), and then the meticulous steps she took to identify, trap and finally reveal to the world her suspect.

‘With the consequences playing out around the world and Coleen dragged unwillingly into a devastating court case whose outcome was far from certain, only now can she candidly give us her side of the story.’

Coleen added in the press release: ‘It was the biggest thing that had ever happened to me, and like nothing I’d ever experienced.

‘Looking back on it now, it still amazes me how inflated it all got, how ridiculous, how serious. That’s why I need to tell what happened in full.’

Designer diva: Coleen was known for being constantly clad in designer labels, including a Von Dutch hat, T-shirt and a Chloe handbag with her eye-popping engagement ring (pictured in 2004, aged 18)

SPREADING HER WINGS: What the experts have to say

Speaking about her flourishing career, PR expert Nick Ede told MailOnline: ‘Coleen Rooney has finally spread her wings and if feels that she is now coming of age…

‘She’s fronted her own documentary for Disney, graced the cover of Vogue and now is set to launch her tell all book which will earn her millions. She’s one of the few WAGS who haven’t dropped into obscurity and carved a career for themselves…

‘For many years she was in Wayne’s shadow and playing on her WAG appeal when she launched £19 fragrances and made personal appearances…

‘She then spent some time being a mother and hiding behind Wayne’s alleged infidelities. But now thanks to Rebekah Vardy and the Instagram scandal she has become a recognised face world wide and its her time to shine…

‘She’s looking more polished than ever and with all eyes on her and her book I can see her maximising on her global appeal…

Changes: Coleen has now changed into a sleek stunner with a Vogue cover under her belt and has recently showcased her fashion chops during her legal battle with Rebekah Vardy (pictured outside the High Court in May last year)

‘She has literally found her voice and its one that people are loving. She has always been a fashion fan and I can see her either modelling or creating a collection for fashion brand like Karen Millen or Lipsy and following in the footsteps of Tyra Banks and Amanda Holden…

‘With viewers getting a glimpse of her perfect home and how she runs her family in pure precision she may write other books on how to keep a family so regimented and follow in Stacey Solomon’s footsteps and help other families sort their lives out.

‘Victoria Beckham used to see a cheap range of perfume and I now her bottles sell for over £250 each and I can see Coleen creating a fragrance collection that is all the rage. Collen has risen like a phoenix and the world is her oyster now…

‘I can see her book being nearly as popular as Britney’s all time bestseller and earning her over 1.5 million and with brand deals and collaborations on the cards she will be earning over 5 million by the end of 2024…

‘One thing that is always great about Coleen is that she is very charitable and caring and she will continue to support charities like Alder Hey and Jeans for Genes and maybe set up a foundation herself with the money she gets from damages!’

Expert Mark Borkowski meanwhile noted Coleen’s high street allure, telling MailOnline: ‘Coleen is a great communicator with a great team behind her and it’s not the first time she’s been the focus of so much media attention…

‘There’s a huge shortage of household names with that sort of connection…

‘Any high street brands will engage with her. She’s been brutally honest and frank and there’s always a sense of dignity and it works well with her brand..

‘With the right breaks and correct guidance from her team we will see much more of her and her brand following recent events.’

My guy: She was supported by husband Wayne at court earlier this year

Back then: PR expert Nick Ede referenced Coleen’s past ventures, including her eponymous perfume in 2007, saying: ‘For many years she was in Wayne’s shadow and playing on her WAG appeal when she launched £19 fragrances and made personal appearances’

Where it began: In a tweet and on Instagram, Coleen said Rebekah’s account had leaked information about her. It triggered a wave of social media reaction and saw her dubbed ‘Wagatha Christie’
