Arleen Sorkin has died aged 67 with the news being confirmed by actress Tara Strong.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, she praised the “talented goddess” as tributes poured in for the Days of Our Lives star.
“Without this gorgeous, talented goddess, #HarleyQuinn would have never existed. She was the inspiration & the heart & soul of this iconic character,” Tara told her 444,000 followers.
She added: “I was in awe as #Batgirl watching her alongside @MarkHamill & Kevin. Sending love to her family #RipArleenSorkin.”
Tributes poured in for the beloved actress as social media users offered condolence messages.

One wrote: “Loved her as Harley Quinn growing up,” while another mused: “Rip true Harley.”
A third penned: “RIP to the Harley Quinn.”
Another echoed: “I’m so sad about this,” while a fifth commented: “OMG. Bob Barker and Arleen Sorkin on the same day? I just can’t.”
While a sixth added: “My condolences, Tara. You succeeded her with honor, and I’m sure she was pleased to know that Harley was in good hands.”

Arleen was the inspiration behind the Joker’s sidekick and voiced the iconic villain in Batman: The Animated Series.
She was college friends with Paul Dini, who created the character and based it on her.
The on-screen star’s cause of death has not yet been reported.
Arleen’s breakthrough role was on the popular US soap Days of Our Lives, where she played alliope Jones from 1984 through to 1990.
She would go on to reprise her role several times over the years, most recently in 2010.
Alongside her soap opera and voice acting roles, Arleen also co-presented America’s Funniest People with comedian Dave Coulier in the early 1990s.
She is survived by her husband, fellow actor Christopher Lloyd, and two sons.
