I’m A Celebrity presenters Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly couldn’t resist making a dig at the Prime Minister after the disastrous speech he made yesterday. Boris Johnson made headlines when he struggled to find his place in his notes as he spoke to the Confederation of British Industry.

Ant and Dec made a jibe at Boris Johnson after he was caught on camera fumbling with sheets of paper, pleading “forgive me” as he struggled to find his place for several moments.

During last night’s I’m A Celeb, Dec began talking about the Victoria sponge cake that the blue team had managed to win for their camp.

As they ate their well-deserved treat, he described it as a “galaxy of formidable flavours”, to which Ant asked: “Where did we get it?”

Dec replied: “I’ve got it written down somewhere,” before pretending to faff around with his own sheets of paper and impersonating the Prime Minister’s voice, whilst telling viewers: “Ooh, er, forgive me”.

The joke took aim at Johnson’s performance at the recent conference in South Shields, which saw him bumbling around helplessly before suddenly praising the popular children’s cartoon, Peppa Pig.

Mr Johnson started reflecting on a trip to a Peppa Pig World theme park in Hampshire, which he said was “very much my kind of place”.

In a clip provided by Sky News, a caption, added for clarity, simply read: “’Forgive me… forgive me… forgive me.’

“Prime Minister Boris Johnson appears to lose his place whilst delivering a speech to the CBI.”

The politician could be heard saying: “So with safer streets, err, with great local schools, err, with fantastic broadband err…”

Boris frantically swapped his papers around and muttered something inaudible before saying “forgive me” a total of three times.

The pause lasted a total of 21 seconds, causing a lot of listeners to be distinctly unimpressed by the Prime Minister’s public speaking skills.

In his speech, Boris was set to announce that new homes built in England will have to have electric car charging points in an effort to reach net zero emissions.

Mr Johnson had confused business leaders at the conference even further, as he went on to tell them how he “loved” Peppa Pig World despite the cartoon character resembling a “Picasso-like hair dryer”.

Mr Johnson was later forced to defend the speech, with one reporter asking him: “You lost your notes, you lost your place, you went off on a tangent about Peppa Pig – frankly, is everything ok?”

In response, the Prime Minister insisted: “I thought it went over well.”

Meanwhile, I’m A Celebrity fans appeared to have loved the jibe aimed at their country’s leader, with many applauding Ant and Dec for the amusing joke.

“Love it Ant and Dec taking the mick out of Boris,” Steven Blake wrote with two cry-laughing emojis.

Leanne O’Connor tweeted: “Ant and Dec taking a hand at Boris. You love to see it.”

“Haaa true democracy is Ant & Dec roasting Boris Johnson,” wrote Stulah.

“Ant and Dec taking the complete p**s out of Boris Johnson is the highlight of the night,” Allantanddec added.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
