Netflix announced Friday that its popular series Cobra Kai is coming to an end after its up coming season.
The streamer shared the news with a video announcing that the series — a sequel to the Ralph Macchio–starring Karate Kid films — had been renewed for a sixth season.
Describing the next batch of episodes as its ‘the biggest’ and ‘baddest’ season to date, the streamer said in a statement: ‘Cobra Kai never dies! After five bada** seasons, Cobra Kai Season 6 will be the final showdown. The epic conclusion to the decades-long karate saga is coming soon to Netflix.’
The series turned the tables on the first two films in the series, making the original antagonist Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) the main character who reopens the Cobra Kai dojo, while the original protagonist Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) later joins forces with him.

Although the new teaser for the season promises it is ‘coming soon,’ Netflix has not yet announced an air date.
Netflix also shared a statement to Twitter from Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.
‘Our goal from day one with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announced that achievement,’ they wrote. ‘The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai.
‘While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger,’ they wrote, referencing original Karate Kid actor Pat Morita, who played Mr. Miyagi. ‘This fandom is the BEST on the planet, and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line.’

Although Cobra Kai has streamed on Netflix since its third season, it originated as a YouTube original series before moving to its current home after its first two seasons.
Although Netflix has developed a reputation of canceling even seemingly popular shows after their second or third seasons, Cobra Kai had surprising longevity, airing four more seasons on the service.
The most recent season began streaming in September of 2022 and was featured in the Nielsen ratings’ top 10 for six weeks.
