All eyes were on Kate Middleton as she hosted a series of youth workshops in Birmingham on World Mental Health Day.
Prince William joined his wife in the West Midlands on Tuesday, 10 October for a series of sessions that discussed the mental health issues faced by young people today. The event was in partnership with UK-based digital charity the Mix and BBC Radio 1.
The mum-of-three, who is reportedly seen as an "asset" to the family by her fellow royals, was spotted smiling and chatting to the public as she stood out from the crowd in a bright yellow LK Bennett suit jacket. She teamed the statement piece with a black blouse and matching trousers.
The princess also wore a pair of star-shaped earrings that had been gifted to her by Maidenhead Rugby Club Under-14s coach Sarah Renton. They were made in memory of Sarah's daughter, Issy, who tragically took her own life at 17 earlier this year. Kate promised to wear the earrings after she was given them during a trip to Sarah's rugby club in June.
Prince William looked equally as smart next to his wife, as he worked the room in a navy suit paired with a shirt and tie.
The event, held at Birmingham's Factory Works, brought together 100 young delegates to discuss how they manage their emotions and how they can be supported to build their resilience and maintain healthy relationships.
William and Kate’s visit came as their Royal Foundation found that around 95% of 16 to 24-year-olds in the UK say they think their peers are having some sort of issue with their mental wellbeing.
The couple, both 41, have always been strong supporters of open discussion around mental health, starting their Heads Together campaign alongside Prince Harry back in 2016.
At the time, William revealed that putting mental health at the forefront of their agenda came from Kate and her experience working with young people who suffered from addictions.
“It was Catherine who first realised that all three of us were working on mental health in our individual areas of focus,” he said in a speech to mark World Mental Health Day in 2017. “She had seen that at the core of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem."
Kate regularly speaks out on the effects of depression and anxiety, especially the issue of loneliness felt by new mums. While Prince William starred in a powerful documentary about mens' mental health back in 2020.
