GOOP founder and actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 48, has come under fire from an NHS doctor for her coronavirus “healing” methods. The wellness and lifestyle blogger was struck down with Covid last year and has since documented the effects of suffering from long Covid on her blog and across social media.

We need to take long Covid seriously and apply serious science

Professor Stephen Powis

National medical director for the NHS, Professor Stephen Powis, has blasted the actress for spreading “misinformation” surrounding Covid remedies.

He said: “Like the virus, misinformation carries across borders and it mutates and it evolves.

“So I think YouTube and other social media platforms have a real responsibility and opportunity here.”

He continued: “In the last few days I see Gwyneth Paltrow is unfortunately suffering from the effects of Covid.”

It comes after Gwyneth took to Instagram a day ago to share the fasting plan that she’s following with her 7.4million followers, so she can feel her “best in a long time”.

Professor Powis continued: “We wish her well, but some of the solutions she’s recommending are really not the solutions we’d recommend in the NHS.

“We need to take long Covid seriously and apply serious science.

“All influencers who use social media have a duty of responsibility and a duty of care around that.”

Long Covid is when coronavirus symptoms still persist after the virus has left the body.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Gwyneth for comment.

In a blog post titled GP’s Picks: Healing My Body with a Longer-Term Detox, the award-winning actress detailed the effects of the illness as well as the lifestyle changes she has made to help overcome her long Covid symptoms.

Gwyneth wrote: “A little background: I had COVID-19 early on, and it left me with some long-tail fatigue and brain fog.

“In January, I had some tests done that showed really high levels of inflammation in my body.”

The actress revealed that she decided to embark on a specific lifestyle regime to help her body overcome the symptoms of long Covid.

She continued: “It’s keto and plant-based but flexible (I’ve been having fish and a few other meats), and I fast until 11 a.m. every day.”

The blogger went on to share some of the recipes she has been making in a bid to beat the effects of the virus.

Gwyneth penned: “I’ve been cooking a lot, and some of it is really delicious: I made scallops with crispy capers and sage the other day, asparagus with bacon vinaigrette, and some little artichokes with stuffed herbs and garlic.

“There’s no sugar, and of course no alcohol, so I’ve been doing major research and finding some great stuff to support what I’m doing.”

The influencer ended her post by saying: “Everything I’m doing feels good, like a gift to my body.

“I have energy, I’m working out in the mornings, and I’m doing an infrared sauna as often as I can, all in service of healing.”

The wellness blogger previously sparked a frenzy amongst social media users when she started selling a candle called This Smells Like My Vagina for £58.

She has since revealed a second scented candle named This Smells Like My Orgasm.
