Spinning Plates podcast: Helen Skelton looks back on Strictly journey
BBC star Helen Skelton opened up about her special connection to Strictly Come Dancing, confessing she was finding it hard to “let the show go” in a new interview.
Countryfile presenter Helen, 40, reached the finals of the BBC One dance show last year with her professional partner Gorka Márquez.
While it was Hamza Yassin and his dance partner Jowita Przystał who walked away with the glitterball trophy, fans marvelled at how much confidence Helen had gained when it came to her dance ability.
Speaking on the Spinning Plates podcast with Murder on the Dancefloor songstress Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Helen admitted she would return to the show “in a heartbeat”.
Speaking about her continued friendship with her former dance partner, Helen shared: “I went to have breakfast with Gorka yesterday and I was like, ‘I need to let go, don’t I?’

“But I would drop back into it in a second,” Helen admitted. “I’d go back in a heartbeat.”
Addressing former Strictly star Sophie, the Countryfile host said: “As you know, in that show, the make-up people are the best and they love what they do and they’re so passionate.
“And the same with the wardrobe people, the hair people, the choreographers… And you’re just swallowed up by all that energy and passion and enthusiasm for what they do.”
Sophie agreed that Strictly was just “like nothing else”, with the pair comparing it to being “in Disneyland”.
“They have a real way to make you stand a bit taller,” Helen reflected.
Spinning Plates with Sophie Ellis-Bextor is available to listen to on streaming services now.
Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One.
