I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! fans were left less than impressed on Sunday after Babatunde Aleshe decided he couldn’t do this year’s first challenge. The trial involved walking out onto a plank on top of a skyscraper and saw Charlene White and Jill Scott continue after their campmate tapped out.

However, the Gogglebox star, 34, who was the only celebrity to back out of the challenge, has now found himself at the centre of a theory created by a viewer on social media.

A Reddit user took to the website to express their belief Babatunde could be trying to “manipulate” I’m A Celeb fans.

The online user said: “Babatunde is the least well known of the celebs this year, and has the most to gain from the exposure.

“He must be aware that as the least well known celeb the odds of him getting the audience vote for any of the upcoming trials are slim to none – and the trials are the only guarantee of dedicated screen time.

“He must also know that the audience likes to punish the celebs, and they skew towards those who seem the most afraid.

“He quit the very first challenge, it seems like everyone is going to be voting for him… giving him exposure that he otherwise wouldn’t get.

The Reddit account continued: “I think there’s a good chance that this was a calculated move, even more so if he’s aware that Matt Hancock is joining soon.

“I’m not criticising him here – I think it’s a smart decision if it was intentional and I’ll be voting for him either way.”

The post created debate among other I’m a Celebrity viewers, with some admitting the possibility was real.

One person wrote: “The cynic in me thought the exact same thing, although, can’t say I blame him really.”

A second added: “I mean it’s possible but I would be willing to believe that it was a genuine reaction.”

However, some jumped to Babatunde’s defence, with one person typing: “You’re on the edge of a building, he could just be scared and didn’t want to do it.”

The original poster argued: “I agree that it could have been a genuine reaction – that’s why I said I think he might be manipulating the audience.”

The fan favourite challenge saw Babatunde approach the ledge nervously, while Loose Women star Charlene encouraged him to keep going.

“Come on, do it for your boy!” she told him while Ant and Dec added: “You can do it.”

“Come on Baba,” Jill remarked as she waited for her turn to take the frightening walk.

“Just one foot in front of the other,” Dec advised him, but the Celebrity Gogglebox star began take a step back.

“I can’t do this,” he replied. “I can’t do this, I can’t do this… I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.”

“Sure?” Jill asked as he repeated: “I can’t do this.”

“Alright, let’s get him down, let’s get him down,” Dec requested.

During Tuesday night’s episode, Bubatunde confronted his fears after the public voted for him to take part in another height challenge.
