The couple have refused to deny that Lowden, 32, got down on one knee during a hiking holiday in Perthshire last July.
Rumours were sparked after the Scottish actor shared a picture on Instagram of the view from Ben Vrackie, with a hand appearing to be Ms Ronan’s bearing a diamond ring.
Further speculation was fuelled after the pair bought a three-bedroom Victorian end-of-terrace property in the upmarket North London enclave of Islington.
The couple first met in 2018 on the set of the Mary Queen of Scots film, in which Ms Ronan played the title role and Lowden as her husband, Lord Darnley.
