Joan Collins slams modern celebs in scathing attack – doesn’t want to be ‘slob’

Dame Joan Collins has slammed the style and fashion sense of today’s stars, insisting: “I don’t like to look like a slob. Ever.”

In a scathing attack on modern celebrities, the Dynasty icon, now 90, also blasted those with collagen-infused “pillow lips” she says “make everybody look the same.”

Dame Joan, who has previously warned that the golden age of classic Hollywood beauty – personified by glamourous legends like Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly – is over.

And now she insists: “I think we groomed ourselves better. If you do see stars out today, they usually look quite not like they’ve put themselves together, like they don’t care. I don’t like to look like a slob. Ever.”

The evergreen British actress launched into her latest tirade in a US interview to promote her new book – Behind the Shoulder Pads: Tales I Tell My Friends – as well as a new screen project – In Bed with the Duchess – in which she plays Wallis Simpson.

Dame Joan also took a swipe at the collagen jabs and treatments many stars now use to plump-up their lips, saying: “I have to say that these large pillow lips just make everybody look the same.”

In the past, she has singled out notable exceptions to celebrity slob culture and as far back as 2010 she declared: “I have to say, there aren’t that many good looking actresses around today. I mean, there’s Angelina Jolie and there’s……Angelina Jolie.”

In her latest attack on current style, however, she declines to name any names and admits she no longer fits into the few stunning gowns she has kept from the 80s and wore as power-dressing Alexis Carrington Colby on Dynasty.

Dame Joan, who celebrated her 20th anniversary last year with fifth and current husband Percy Gibson, did however reveal what makes their relationship work.

“Separate bathrooms and the same bedroom,” she said, adding: “Percy and I met working together, and we became great friends. We found we had a lot in common. We both adored the theatre. We love reading. We love playing cards or Scrabble.

“Neither of us are particularly outdoor people. He doesn’t go running out to football games. We just got along. We had what I call the same blood group.”
