Jonathan Van Ness says he’s been “showered with grace” since he opened up about HIV-positive diagnosis.
Van Ness, who stars as one of the “Fab Five” in Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” thanked fans and loved ones for their support Saturday after discussing his diagnosis in an interview about his upcoming memoir, “Over the Top.”
“Just wanted to say thank you so much, especially [to] my queer family and countless other friends and family for reaching out today,” he wrote in an Instagram story. “Not only to the people I have known but everyone who has showered me with grace.”
The 32-year-old hairdresser revealed Saturday that he was 25 when he fainted at a salon while working on a client’s hair. He went to a Planned Parenthood health center the next day and learned that he was HIV-positive.
“That day was just as devastating as you would think it would be,” he wrote, according to the New York Times.
Van Ness said he finally decided to be open about his diagnosis as well as past drug addiction in his memoir since “these are issues that need to be talked about.”
