Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, 53, was pictured wearing a face mask over her nose and mouth, in line with the Government’s safety rules, as she made her way to the London studio. Before she entered the building, the presenter pulled down her face covering and flashed a smile for the photographers outside.

Dressing cosy for the occasion, she opted for a long camel coat which she paired with a leopard print scarf.

Kate completed her look with a maroon-coloured, leather boots.

The mother-of-two returned to her usual 10am to 1pm slot and greeted listeners with a happy new year message.

It comes after Kate detailed her “calamitous” Christmas without her husband Derek.

The latter was first admitted to hospital with coronavirus back in March, but has remained unwell after the virus attacked his body and led to further complications.

Last month, Kate and their two children Darcie, 14, and Billy, 11, spent their first festive period without him.

To mark the new year, the host shared a lengthy post on her Instagram page, telling fans Christmas had been “a challenge”.

“Well here we are folks – #newyearseve – the last day of a year few will be sorry to see the back of,” she began in view of her 970,000 followers.

“Have been quiet for a while – getting through Christmas has been a challenge hasn’t it with all the emotions it stirs in our strange world & nowhere really to put them – except in hope. And there is still so much real hope out there.

“Not just in the extraordinary health care workers & researchers who definitely hold a bright light for the future. But in all the little kindnesses.”

Kate went on to say she had a “calamitous few days” over the festive period after two pipes caused a flood at her London home.

“The guys from @bondconstruction who literally got on their hands & knees with me to bucket out water after we had 2 pipe leaks that flooded our home,” she explained to fans.

Kate continued to thank her broadband company for helping her with her TV and wifi issues.

She also praised Emma Willis and M&S for helping her get food in time for Christmas dinner.

The host concluded her post with a thank you to her colleagues for their “constant support” after a tough year.

“Spreading the love is what will give us all a truly happy new year,” she signed off.

Many of Kate’s fans and co-stars flocked to her post to comment on her latest post.

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid wrote: “Oh Kate – sending so much love.”

Charlotte Hawkins commented: “What a year you’ve had. Happy New Year & here’s hoping 2021 is a brighter one. Sending much love.”

Countryfile host Matt Baker added: “Lots of love Kate from all the Bakers.”
