Former Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton, 37, announced he won’t be returning as a professional dancer this series after seven years on the show. In his first year in 2013, he danced with Susanna Reid, 49.
I didn’t realise you can’t just say what you think all the time
In the most recent episode of his podcast The Kevin Clifton Show, the dancer reflected on what he learned from the Good Morning Britain star, which included a warning about what to say in interviews.
He said: “She was an incredible first partner for me, I learned a lot from Susanna about things like how to be on TV and how to talk to the press because I was making so many mistakes.
“It sounds stupid now but, at the time I didn’t realise you can’t just say what you think all the time when you’re being interviewed by the press, because a lot of the time, press are out to get you.
“Sometimes I’d be on the edge of saying something and Susanna would be like, ‘I wouldn’t say that right now or you’ll get into trouble’.”

On what else he learned from the journalist, he added: “I also learned from Susanna how to act around your celebrity partner because I thought all the job was was teaching her how to dance and to do the performance on Saturday.
“There’s a lot more to do it than that.”
He added: “You have to be available and sort of around for your partner and look after them, because you start to realise it’s quite a daunting thing for them to do.
“You can’t just be in the rehearsal room with them during the week and then disappear when you’re at the TV studios at the weekend because you want to go and talk football with your mates.
“You have to be around because they might want to go through the routine again or they might be a bit scared about what they’re about to do,” he continued to explain.
“They might not like their outfit and are not sure what to do about it or what to say.”
Continuing to praise his former dance partner, he went on to say: “Susanna was really good at communicating and all that to me about what she needed, so I learned a lot from her about how to go about the process of Strictly Come Dancing.”
Kevin and Susanna, who he called the “underdogs” of the show at the time, got to the final of show back in 2013.

Despite their impressive efforts, they missed out on the Glitterball trophy to Abbey Clancy and Aljaž Škorjanec.
After getting to the final with five celebrity partners, Kevin finally won the show with Stacey Dooley in 2018.
Weeks after their win, her ex-boyfriend Sam Tucknott told The Sun she was now dating Kevin following their break-up.
They have since confirmed their relationship.

Earlier this month, Stacey Dooley hit back at claims she was behind her beau’s decision to quit Strictly.
When asked how she felt about being blamed for Kevin’s choice on BBC Radio 5 Live, she said: “Kevin is obviously totally incapable of making decisions for himself. So I swooped in and saved the day.
“Like it’s got anything to do with me what he does for a living. I mean, I think that he’s got things lined up that I’ll let him tell everyone about.
“You have to [laugh]. At the start, it hurts but then you realise it’s storytime. It’s a complete fantasy,” she added.
“There’s not an ounce of truth in so much of what is published.”
