Strictly’s Layton Willams teases ‘potential lovers’ after first dance
Layton Williams once accused Edinburgh Fringe Festival security staff of “racial profiling” after he was kicked out of a venue in 2018 for “looking suspicious”.
The Strictly Come Dancing star, who was 23 at the time, ranted on social media after he was turned away from a show by security.
Posting a video on X, formally known as Twitter, the actor complained that he was told he “looked like” somebody who had jumped the Assembly Hall fence two weeks earlier.
“I’m at Edinburgh Fringe and I’m furious!” he said.
“So these lot over here think I was here two weeks ago because I look like another mixed race b**** apparently.”

He continued: “I can prove to them that I wasn’t here two weeks ago because I was elsewhere.
“But I’ve just been kicked out of a venue for looking suspicious because I look like somebody else. But that’s not me.”
In the footage, he is then seen speaking to the security guards: “I’m calling you all out at the garden entrance Assembly Hall.
“It’s going on Twitter, y’all, 20,000 plus.”

He added in a further tweet that he had “calmly reported them to the police” and officers said they would “have a word”.
Layton continued: “They were very understanding but I can’t tell you that sinking feeling I have right now. Feeling completely humiliated. The injustice is wild.” The security staff, on the other hand, were described as “horrifically rude, uncooperative and quite frankly, abusive”.
The theatre company, Assembly Festival, has since apologised to Williams for the way its security staff handled the incident.
They tweeted at the time: “We would like to apologise @LaytonWilliams for how the incident in George Square Gardens was handled by our staff and security last night. We are currently looking into the situation with our security contractor and will be investigating this further.
“We would also like to reassure all performers and audiences that we are committed to making sure that our spaces remain welcoming for everyone attending shows and using our venues.”
