Gardeners’ World star Monty Don has left fans heartbroken after sharing his “favourite” photos of his late dog Nellie.
The famed horticulturist, 68, who is known for his love of dogs, took to social media last week and tragically revealed that Nellie had passed away after a battle with cancer.
Monty has since shared snaps of the Golden Retriever with his doting 1.2million followers on Instagram – and it’s left them all reaching for the tissues.
In the pictures, the adorable pooch can be seen living her best life, as Monty writes: “A friend sent me a batch of pictures he took of Nellie during GW filming over the years. They are all good but these are my favourites.”
Fans have since flooded the comments section, with hundreds leaving their well wishes and personal experiences as comfort for his untimely loss.

Alongside an array of red love heart emojis, one person penned: “I’m so sad about your dog Nellie. I miss my pooch every day. It always seems too soon.”
Echoing their comments, someone else said: “What beautiful memories and a most precious relationship. Thank you for sharing these adorable images, Monty.”
A third added: “Beautiful gentle Nellie. We never know how long we’ll have them for, so cherish every day.”
Last Saturday, Monty heartbreakingly announced that Nellie had lost her fight with cancer in a tear-jerking statement posted to Instagram.

“I was going to tell you about my new book which is published next week, but that can wait because my lovely dear Nell died last night,” he wrote.
“She was diagnosed with cancer in June and every day this summer has been a gift but it is over now.”
He added: “We buried her in the garden next to Nigel wrapped in one of my jackets with flowers, balls and her favourite biscuits.
“Her end was peaceful and dignified and ended obvious suffering but it never gets any easier to bear. So life goes on, but for the moment we are very, very sad.”
Monty said a bitter farewell to Golden Retriever Nigel in 2020 and currently has two other dogs – Ned, another Golden Retriever, and Yorkshire Terrier Patti.
The presenter’s love of dogs is well-documented – in 2016, he released a book, My Family and Other Dogs, detailing how his companions came to share the screen with him on Gardener’s World.
