Amid the fallout from Britney Spears ' memoir, one of Justin Timberlake's NSYNC bandmates, Lance Bass, has come to his defence.
Justin Timberlake's image as a boyfriend wasn't portrayed in the most flattering light in Britney's book, The Woman in Me, leading to criticism and backlash from fans.
In the memoir, several shocking revelations emerged about Britney and Justin's relationship, including her disclosure that she had an abortion after becoming pregnant with his child. This revelation has fueled criticism against Justin, with many condemning his behaviour during their three-year relationship.
Lance Bass, a fellow member of NSYNC, spoke to TMZ at LAX and revealed that he had purchased Britney's memoir and was looking forward to reading it.
When asked if he believed the backlash against Justin was unfair, Lance said: "Look, I mean, everyone has their own opinion." He continued: "I just feel like the world is so full of hate right now that we need to practise a little forgiveness."
Lance also referenced Britney's call for forgiveness, saying: "Britney did! So, let's take a note from her."
While the reporter pointed out that it was the fans who appeared more upset with Justin than Britney herself, Lance emphasised that everyone deserves the chance to tell their story and expressed hope that fans could find some forgiveness.
Lance Bass did not reveal any details about whether he had discussed the situation with Justin, but he indicated that the controversy was a sensitive topic.
In response to the backlash, Justin Timberlake disabled comments on his Instagram page to prevent negative opinions from being voiced beneath his posts.
Britney Spears' memoir revealed intimate details of her relationship with Justin Timberlake, including their discussions about a potential pregnancy in 2000 and allegations of infidelity on both sides.
The Hit Me Baby singer penned in an excerpt obtained byPeople: "It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated."
She continued: "But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.
"I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father."
The pair have both become parents since, with other partners. Britney is mother to sons Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden, 17, who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Justin is married to actress Jessica Biel, and they share sons Silas, 8, and Phineas, 2.
