Sarah Ferguson gives first Royal tribute to Friends star Matthew Perry: ‘It’s a tragedy to lose you’

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has become the first member of the Royal family to pay tribute to the late Friends actor Matthew Perry after his tragic death.

Fergie, 64, famously made a cameo in Friends back in 1998, when the cast flew to London to film scenes for Ross Geller's wedding to Emily, who was from the city.

After the news emerged of Matthew Perry's shock death from suspected accidental drowning, aged 54, Sarah took to Instagram to share some throwbacks of her time spent with the Friends stars.

One saw her take the place of Lisa Kudrow as she posed with Matthew, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.

In another snap, she posed alongside Matthew and Matt Le Blanc on set in front of Westminster Abbey.

A heartbroken Sarah wrote: "I remember being thrilled to have met a natural talent, comedian and brilliant actor. It is a tragedy to lose you so early in life, rest in peace dear Matthew … you have given so much joy and laughter to so many."

Her followers rushed to offer their own condolences in the comments, as one wrote: "Very sad Sarah. I remember the London episodes with great fondness."

Another said: "The Friends episodes in London including you are some of my favorites!" whilst a fourth commented: "Just heartbreaking. It felt like we all knew him. So so sad."

A fifth added: "Lovely tribute, Sarah. Thank you for remembering the good times.."

The much-loved actor, Matthew, was discovered apparently drowned in his Los Angeles home.

Emergency services rushed to his home after receiving a call at 4.07pm that the star had suffered a cardiac arrest. But when they arrived, they reportedly found the star lifeless in his jacuzzi.

According to TMZ, the actor had returned home following a game of pickleball and sent his assistant out on an errand. But when the aide returned home just two hours later, he found Matthew unresponsive and immediately called for help.

Police sources have claimed that the beloved star had drowned, treating the situation as a 'water rescue,' according to NBC.

There were no drugs found at the scene nor did it seem that there was any foul play involved. He wasn't taken to hospital.

The Friends' official Twitter account confirmed his death, as they posted: "We are devastated to learn of Matthew Perry's passing. He was a true gift to us all. Our heart goes out to his family, loved ones, and all of his fans."

A source added that there was no sign of foul play and that robbery-homicide detectives are investigating his death.
