Shawn Mendes has covered Bruce Springsteen‘s “Dancing In The Dark” for a new campaign for fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger.
The Craig McDean and Theo Stanley-directed video, which is available on Tommy Hilfiger’s YouTube channel, shows Mendes’ covering the 1984 hit for the apparel chain’s “Classics Reborn” campaign.
At one point, Mendes appears wearing a white top and blue jeans with a red, white, and blue bandana hanging out of his back pocket in reference to Springsteen’s signature album cover photo.
“I get up in the evenin’ / And I ain’t got nothin’ to say / I come home in the mornin’ / I go to bed feelin’ the same way / I ain’t nothin’ but tired / Man, I’m just tired and bored with myself / Hey there, baby, I could use just a little help,” Mendes sings in the commercial.
“I’m partnering with @TommyHilfiger to bring more sustainable clothing to the forefront. Tommy is reimagining the classics using more sustainable materials, & has made a $1mm commitment to greening my tour. This is just the beginning,” Mendes tweeted.
According to Tommy Hilfiger, the 1985 collection, which dropped on Monday, features “iconic pieces made with organic cotton, which is kinder for the planet.”
“Dancing in the Dark” was the first single released from Springsteen’s 1984 album Born in the USA. The song spent four weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million singles in the U.S. The song is listed among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
