Strictly star Shirley Ballas was in tears after learning that her son Mark and his dance partner Charli D’Amelio have become the latest reigning champions of USA-based show Dancing With The Stars. The TV judge shared her joy with her 259,000 Instagram followers, admitting that she “couldn’t be prouder”.

The proud parent uploaded a photo of the pair clutching their glittery disco ball shaped trophies, and admitted that she and her mum had stayed up all night to beat the West Coast USA time zones and catch a glimpse of the live final.

“A huge congratulations to @charlidamelio and @markballas. Champions of @dancingwiththestars Season 31,” she wrote.

“Oh my goodness. I couldn’t be any prouder of you both… Your dances last night were outstanding on all levels.

“You rehearsed, performed and fought for that mirrorball all season long and it all paid off.”

She confessed she had been desperate to see the show in person, but her Strictly commitments had meant she had to be content with cheering him on from the UK.

Despite the distance that separated them, she watched on proudly as both of Mark and Charli’s routines were awarded perfect scores of 10 by the judges.

Addressing her son, she exclaimed: “What can I say, I cry tears of joy to know your heart has fallen in love with dance again.”

She praised his “phenomenal determination” to bring out the best in his partner Charli, insisting that it was his excellence that brought the Tiktok dancer’s performance to life.

“Your brainstorming ideas and outstanding choreography deserve only the highest praise Seeing you back on the dance floor has filled my heart with pride and joy,” she continued.

Making it clear that she wouldn’t let her son rest on his laurels, she added: “All I ever ask of you is work ethic beyond the universe.

“Do your very best at all times and do it with that magnificent heart of yours. You are and always have been my warrior.”

“Nanny and I lay waiting for the result. 10s across the board for both routines,” she praised, admitting she had been nerve-wracked.

Meanwhile, she didn’t leave out any praise from Connecticut dance star Charli, who practised competitive dancing for over a decade before deciding on a career as a TikTok influencer.

Praising her aptitude, she exclaimed: “Winning is testament that the audience have fallen in love with your beautiful heart and soul.”

“I know you have inspired and entertained so many people around the world [and] your dedication to the craft of dance is what you are all about.”

Finally, Shirley concluded: “Well done darling boy. I am over the moon. Love you to the moon and back and I’m so immensely proud.”

Dancing With The Stars, which is based on the Strictly format, drew in millions of viewers in the USA alone when the climactic final aired.

Meanwhile, Strictly stars over in the UK flooded Shirley’s post with praise and congratulatory messages for her son’s achievement.

Gorka Marquez, Giovanni Pernice, Karen Hauer, and many others replied to the post to send positive vibes her way.

Meanwhile, viewers can catch Shirley in the judging seat on Strictly Come Dancing as it continues this weekend, with the first show on Saturday at 7:15pm on BBC One.
