Starbucks is looking to kill us. But in the most delicious way possible! The coffee chain is launching a new Frappuccino this summer that is so over the top, I think you gain weight just reading it: the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino. I swear, my mouth starts to water just reading the name. And get this – it contains real bits of funnel cake!

If funnel cakes and fair grounds are your ideal way of spending a summer day, Starbucks’ new frappuccino is for you.

On Tuesday, the coffee chain added a limited-edition beverage to their menu: the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino. The drink is made up of strawberry puree, whipped cream and funnel cake-flavored frappuccino, but the star of the new item is its topping — actual pieces of crunchy powdered sugar funnel cake.

The frappuccino joins a lineup of Starbucks’ other year-round blended favorites such as the Caramel Ribbon Crunch and Mocha Cookie Crumble frappuccinos, as well as the Dragon Drink, Pink Drink and Mango Dragonfruit Starbucks Refreshers.

As far as food, returning again this year is the Unicorn Cake Pop, which features vanilla cake, confetti sprinkles, and white chocolate icing shaped as a unicorn head.

CB asked how many calories this thing had. I’m sure the answer would stun us even before we went into sugar shock from drinking it. What I want to know is what’s the prep time? If I ordered a Strawberry Funnel Frap and a Unicorn Cake Pop, would I need to budget and extra hour into whatever errand I was running? I’ve said before, other than wine, I really don’t drink my calories so I will likely never indulge in this thing unless I treat it like a dessert. But all the separate elements sound good. If I worked at Starbucks, I’d probably dip into the funnel cake piece reserve enough to earn myself a pink slip.

I’m most intrigued with the “funnel-cake-flavored Frappuccino” part and what that would taste like. I wonder if I could get that on its own. I bet I could, because Starbucks loves to customize drink orders. The company loves to be known for it, the baristas – not so much. Last week a fed-up barista went viral when she posted a rant about a customer who ordered a drink with 10 personalizations. The tweet prompted a thread by baristas who have similar feelings about overly-customizing customers. The thread is now deleted, and Starbucks issued a statement defending their customers’ right to personalize. So I guess keep ordering what you want, but just remember: be kind to your barista. They work hard creating these complicated orders and they’re in control of your drinks.
