Zara McDermott reveals ‘sad day’ at Strictly
Ellie Leach’s Strictly Come Dancing co-star Zara McDermott has revealed her sadness at being separated from the Coronation Street actress after “six or seven weeks” of sharing the same dressing room.
Vowing that she may well sneak back to visit from time to time, Zara took to Instagram to share her emotional goodbye.
Filming outside the door of the room she and Ellie had been sharing, she told her two million followers: “Today is a sad day.
“I think it’s a bittersweet day because I’ve finally got my own dressing room, but I’ve been sharing with Ellie for the last six weeks, maybe more, because there’s not enough space in the building!” she revealed.
“Not sure how I feel about this – I may sneak back into your room for girl chats.”

Ellie promptly reposted Zara’s Instagram Story, agreeing: “This is a sad day – you’re always welcome @zaramcdermott.”
However, the former Corrie actress also has a reason to celebrate, after ex-Strictly pro James Jordan revealed he could picture her and Vito Coppola claiming the Glitterball trophy.
He’d been critical of Vito in recent times, claiming during one dance that he was “overpowering” Ellie with his moves and not allowing her to “shine”.
The notoriously frank star, who reached the show’s final in 2012 with Denise Van Outen, suggested that after seeing Ellie and Vito’s Samba to a Barry Manilow track: “If he had been dancing with one of the professional girls, she would have been able to cope with his power.”

“However, Ellie wasn’t – and he was just dragging her around the floor a little bit.”
Now, however, talking on his Strictly: The Truth video series for Hello! magazine, he has told the world: “No question – no-one even scratched the surface in comparison to Ellie and Vito.”
Referring to Ellie and Vito’s routine from last weekend, the star declared: “They’re my winners at the moment!”
Ellie shared his enthusiasm when she took to Instagram earlier this week to excitedly exclaim: “Saturday night was everything i could have hoped for and more!!!!!!!
“I loved being able to show a different side of me and bring drama to the dancefloor and I can’t believe [Vito and I] got our first 10!!!!”
Meanwhile, as the competition heats up, James has highlighted that he doesn’t see Zara as a natural on the dancefloor, suggesting she should choose a dance style that’s less technically complex if she wants to win the judges’ votes this weekend.
Zara herself admitted she’s finding Strictly challenging, taking to her own Instagram account to exclaim: “The audacity of me this time last year, thinking lifts were easy – they’re not.”
However, she hasn’t lost hope of reaching this year’s final, and is allowing herself some sugary snacks to build up her stamina.
In one amusing Instagram update, her pro partner Graziano di Prima exclaimed “I thought you were full?” only for Zara to brandish a doughnut and joke back: “I have two stomachs – one for savoury and one for sweet!”
