Amy Dowden shares update on chemotherapy
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden took to Instagram today to update her 599,000 followers on a concerning new side effect of her chemotherapy that could be “irreversible”.
The 33-year-old BBC star has been bravely updating her fans on her health battle after being diagnosed with breast cancer back in May.
This morning, an ever-upbeat Amy shared a video from bed as she revealed her hopes about her future health, as well as her upcoming TV plans.
“Morning everybody, How are we all on this Friday?” she began. “I’m doing really well since last week’s chemo.
“I’ve had a few side effects and a new one this time – neuropathy in my right thumb and second finger,” she revealed.

“I’m hoping that it’s going to go by next week because I know sometimes with this it’s irreversible but fingers crossed it’s going to be ok.
“It’s just like numbness – I can’t feel or there’s tingling sometimes – but mainly numbness. I literally can’t feel the end of my thumb – so strange.
According to the NHS, Peripheral neuropathy “develops when nerves in the body’s extremities, such as the hands, feet and arms, are damaged” and “the symptoms depend on which nerves are affected”.

The main symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, which can be caused by some chemotherapy drugs, can include: numbness and tingling in the feet or hands, burning, stabbing or shooting pain in affected areas, loss of balance and co-ordination and muscle weakness, especially in the feet.
Despite her new symptom, Amy remained cheerful as she continued: “Anyway, I’m in Elstree (studios) back with the Strictly lot today and I can’t wait for you guys to see what I’m up to – so fun!”
“So I’ve now got a lovely day with them and then tonight I am live on Stand Up To Cancer with the lovely Davina McCall so tune in 7pm live.
“It’s very exciting and I’m back in Elstree doing Strictly tomorrow!” she concluded optimistically.
Amy is not coupled up with a celebrity for this year’s series of Strictly after doctors told her she would not be well enough to make a full-time return to the BBC show this year.
However, she has been making plenty of appearances in group numbers and backstage with her close pals from the cast.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7.05pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
