Strictly’s Bobby Brazier ‘unlikely to win’ due to ‘same’ dances, says ex pro

Bobby Brazier and partner Dianne Buswell have been criticised by Brendan Cole following their recent performences. The former Strictly Come Dancing professional has claimed the pair haven’t produced anything “different” in their routines.

Before the 2023 edition of the BBC ballroom competition comes to a close, Brendan, 47, has offered his opinion on this year’s finalist. Discussing 20-year-old Bobby and Dianne, 32, the dancer said that it is “great” that the duo have made the final, but he appears to be on a “different level” to Layton Williams and Ellie Leach.

Speaking to Sky Bingo, the star said: “It’s great Bobby and Dianne have made the final, it’s lovely for them. But I don’t see them being finalists in the same way as Ellie [Leach] or Layton [Williams].

“They [Bobby and Dianne] appear to be on a different level to the other finalists. Bobby and Dianne have pretty much done the same thing with every number, nothing has looked particularly different.

“They have done a couple of really nice numbers but across the board, they’ve been on a lower level to the others in the final, that’s not to say that he hasn’t done really well,” he explained. “Therefore, for me, we are looking at a two-person final rather than a three-person final, but it would have been the same if Annabel [Croft] had stayed in this week.”

Interestingly, the father-of-two said he would have “preferred” Annabel, 57, to be in the Strictly final.

Brendan made his point by saying that the former professional tennis player had gone on a “journey” with partner Johannes Radebe during the show.

“Also, with what she’s been through this year, it has been an epic story and for that reason I’d have liked to have seen her in the final,” he added.

This Saturday, EastEnders actor Bobby will fight alongside Layton, 29, and Coronation Street star Ellie, 22, for the chance to lift the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

The former is expected to dance a Couple’s Choice to This Woman’s Work by Maxwell, before producing a Show Dance to a La La Land Medley.

Bobby and Dianne will also dance the Samba to Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton again, as a Judges’ Pick.

Following the news that the pair were Strictly 2023 finalists, Dianne took to Instagram and told her 928,000 followers that she was proud of the “growth” the soap star had exhibited.

She wrote: “Can’t believe the growth I have seen in bobby not only in his dancing but also personally.

“He came to me a young 20 year old who had (sic) tons of energy and the biggest smile and a true passion to learn to dance.

“He seriously had no clue about what Ballroom or Latin dancing was but he has embraced every part of this experience and is now the biggest Strictly fan and a brilliant dancer. It makes me so proud and so happy!”

She added that she was “extremely grateful” for the judges and the fans keeping them in the competition, and that she was “so excited” to be competing in the final.

“We want to make you smile feel the love and joy on Saturday night,” Dianne added. “Come on bobby let’s do it.”

The Strictly Come Dancing final takes place this Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
