William and Kate would ‘refuse to attend’ Christmas at Sandringham if Harry was invited, says expert

Prince William and Kate Middleton would "refuse to attend" Christmas at King Charles' if Prince Harry was invited, a royal expert said.

Christmas is fast approaching with families across the country making plans to spend time with their loved ones, but amid the rift between the Royal Family plans could look a little different. Speculation has emerged that Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are "keen for reconciliation" after the prince reportedly called his father, King Charles, for his birthday earlier this month, ending a six-month stalemate between the two.

This has prompted speculation as to whether Harry and Meghan would be invited to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham House, where they traditionally stay during the festive period. But royal expert Jennie Bond spoke exclusively to OK! and said if this was the case it could cause "major disruption" and "upset" for William and Kate.

TV presenter and journalist Jennie told us: "I can’t see how Charles could invite Harry and Meghan without causing major disruption and upsetting William and Kate, who would presumably refuse to attend.

"So I don’t think they will be invited for Christmas."

Talking further about the ongoing feud between William and Harry, Jennie said: "Feelings are much too raw between the brothers. I think William has closed his mind to thoughts of reconciliation any time soon and has simply moved on with his life.

"It’s probably his coping mechanism, just as Harry says he blocked out all feelings about losing his mother for the first few years after Diana’s death.

"William will probably have to deal with the rift with Harry one day but right now he is making his mark as Prince of Wales and enjoying great popularity and a wonderfully happy home life."

The brother's relationship has been in a downward spiral since 2019 and has only worsened following the release of the Duke of Sussex's explosive memoir Spare in January 2023. In the book, Harry was rather critical of his older brother, whom he accused of once "physically assaulting" him.

While Harry and Meghan are unlikely to spend Christmas with the rest of the Royal Family Jennie added: "But perhaps the New Year is possible if the rumours are correct.

"A new year, a new leaf and I am certain that, in spite of all that has been so painfully said and done, the King loves his younger son very much and would like nothing better than to mend bridges with him and get to know his two grandchildren.

"Small steps and in the right direction, but personally I think it’s still a bit early to expect Harry and Meghan to be flying over. Maybe in the coming year though."

Jennie went on to share that instead, the Sussex’s are likely to have a "California Christmas" with Meghan's mother, Doria, "joining in". While Meghan is "still firmly estranged from almost her entire US family".
