YouTuber Kameron Lester Says Jeffree Star Tokenized and Manipulated Him: "I Felt Always Silenced"

Beauty YouTuber Kameron Lester is opening up about his experience with Jeffree Star, saying he was tokenized while working with Jeffree and was often made to feel uncomfortable and manipulated.

As first reported by E! News, Kameron opened up in an IGTV video and said he felt as though he and Jeffree were never really friends. “I just felt like it wasn’t a friendship, it was never a friendship in the beginning to start with, it was always something, like, I was kind of like the token Black kid.”

Kameron went on to explain that he was replaced as a model for one of Jeffree’s beauty campaigns. “I felt like he was trying to send a message in some way that I was replaceable as a Black boy,” he said, later adding, “Even with Shane Dawson posting me on his platform, I was grateful, but I felt like it was kind of to silence me to be like ‘We’re gonna keep giving you breadcrumbs and hanging you by a string and manipulating you so you just stay quiet’ [….] I felt always silenced.”

Speaking my personal truth.

Kameron also said Jeffree dismissed his request to apologize to Jackie Aina (who’s called Jeffree out for his “blatantly racist behavior”), telling Kameron “She doesn’t deserve a f*cking spot on my platform.'”

Kameron explained that he “will no longer just be the Black boy that is there to make you look good or to speak up for you, because it’s not reciprocated,” and that “as a Black beauty boy, I have fought for my spot to be heard and seen in the beauty community… I have been told not to say anything, to keep the network and benefit from it, and I’m just not that type of person. I want to remain authentic.”

Since posting his IG video, Kameron has re-tweeted a voice memo allegedly sent to him by Jeffree, who said, per E! News, “That is the most craziest and manipulative and most insane thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life. I know you’re upset… and now people are coming for you for supporting me, so you trying to flip the script and make up a bunch of lies and make me the devil, is so boring.”

In response, Kameron tweeted the following:

He was just preaching about black lives matter on his platform. Then send this to a black gay beauty boy who just said he was scared for his life because of his manipulation tactics. He sent this voice note to keep painting a narrative that I was lying and doing all this because

I’ve been fighting for peace ever since I found out I was HIV positive. I don’t have time for the games. This sad and scary. Please just now if you support Jeffree you are not supporting black lives… it’s contradictive and he’s not remorseful towards the black community.

At this time, Jeffree has yet to release a public statement.
