Elizabeth Debicki, 32, who plays Princess Diana in the new season of The Crown, cut a glamorous figure on the red carpet on Tuesday evening. She wore a black sleeveless gown by Dior.

The strapless garment also featured a matching stripe detail while Elizabeth added height to her frame with a pair of heels.

Also sporting several gold Dior bracelets the TV star styled her blonde locks into an updo for the star-studded event.

Princess Diana wore an identical gown back in 1987 at the Cannes Film Festival in France, except she wore a baby blue version.

Her iconic blue gown with a scarf around her neck paid homage to Grace Kelly, who wore a similar blue gown in her heyday as Princess Grace.

Diana was photographed wearing a now-iconic powder blue chiffon gown by one of her favourite designers, Catherine Walker.

The dress was worn with a matching scarf and quickly became one of Princess Diana’s most fondly remembered style moments.

The dress was put up for auction at the Julien’s Auction Hollywood Legends Memorabilia auction in 2011.

However, it wasn’t until just before the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 that it was eventually sold at the LA auction house for a cool £81,000, the proceeds from which went to a children’s charity.

Princess Diana wore the gown and accompanying knotted scarf down the red carpet when she walked with then-Prince Charles, the Mayor of Cannes and his deputy to the premier of a film 35 years ago.

Elizabeth Debicki certainly was paying homage to Diana tonight at the film premiere for The Crown.

She joined Dominic West, Imelda Staunton and Gillian Anderson at the premiere of The Crown season five in London.

The actress was joined on the red carpet by child actors Will Powell and Timothee Sambor who star as Prince William and Prince Harry.

Imelda Staunton, who takes over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Coleman, opted for a black blazer and matching trousers along with a crisp white shirt.

Dominic West, who takes over the role of the then-Prince Charles from Josh O’Connor, looked dapper in a black suit with a white shirt.

The actor attended the premiere alongside his wife Catherine FitzGerald and their four children Senan, Dora, Francis and Cristabel.

Gillian Anderson, who portrayed Margaret Thatcher in season four, donned a black sleeveless gown with a bejewelled embellishment.

Claudia Harrison, who portrays Princess Anne in the Netflix drama, looked elegant in a black off-the-shoulder dress. The outfit also featured a high leg split along with a waist strap and a layered detail on the shoulder.

The actress also sported a pair of black heels while she styled her brunette tresses into loose curls. Erin Richards, who plays Kelly Fisher, the ex-girlfriend of Princess Diana’s partner Dodi Fayed, opted for a baby pink long-sleeved midi dress.

The garment featured a high collar while Erin also opted for a pair of mauve heels and silver earrings. Lesley Manville, who plays Princess Margaret, looked sensational in a black short-sleeved dress with a sequinned detail. The garment had a lace detail along the neckline along with a sheer detail while Lesley also wore a pair of matching heels.

Olivia Williams, who stars as Camilla Parker Bowles, effortlessly turned heads in a bright red blazer and matching trousers. The Victoria & Abdul star’s outfit also featured a tassel detail while she added height to her frame with matching heels. Wearing her brunette locks in an updo, Olivia accessorised with a silver clutch bag as she posed for the cameras.
