I budgeted £100 for my daughter's Christmas gifts & only got 3 things – then other mums shared a hack to get WAY more | The Sun

A MUM-OF-TWO has been left worried that she can't afford Christmas this year, after her £100 present budget stretched to just three gifts.

Poppy had set aside £100 for each of her children, but had no idea that the generous amount would only pay for three gifts for her daughter.

She asked for advice from other parents, admitting she doesn't want her little girl to have just those gifts on Christmas morning.

"Quick question, how are you affording Christmas this year?" Poppy began her TikTok video.

"Because I said I was gonna do £100 spend limit for Pippa and I've bought her three things.

"A Barbie car, a Maileg mouse and a Tangled doll – that was £100.

MUM'S THE WORD

I hate being a mum but trolls say I shouldn’t be able to express how I feel

"I feel so bad just giving her 3 things on Christmas Day.

"And people just say just bulk it out with other things, but I don't just wanna buy her random crap that she ain't gonna use."

Poppy continued by asking "what's everyone doing this year?" as she said she might have to "charity shop some bits".

"I don't see any shame in doing that," she insisted.

"Like, I think I might have to.

"I just feel so sorry for people that haven't got the money.

"And to be honest, I haven't got the money to be spending hundreds and hundreds.

"It's just ridiculous now how expensive everything is."

Poppy said she's hoping to get some bargains on Black Friday in November, but also asked if anyone had any other suggestions.

"I feel so bad that I've already reached my limit on three items for her," she concluded.

And lots of mums were quick to offer their advice in the comments section, with many suggesting using sites like Vinted to find cut-price bargains.

"Vinted girl! My son asked for something that was £60 and £40 I got them for £25 and £10 from there!" one wrote.

"Oh amazing – I didn't even know they did toys!" Poppy replied.

"We’ve done Vinted and charity stops & b&m this year!" another added.

"£60 for their birthdays each (nov) they’ve got loads! & Xmas about the same!"

"Quality over quantity!"

"Charity shops, Vinted and Facebook you can find some gems! don’t stress she will be happy with whatever she gets," a third commented.

"Vinted and charity shops!" someone else said.

"Don’t buy all toys/presents from high street shops although a few are nice ofc, always take a look in the local charity shops or places like vinted…"

"Facebook market place has been amazing for us over the years," another wrote.

As someone else suggested: "Go down to b&m with the app and scan away at the toys I’ve had so many amazing toys for just £5 when they are advertised much more on the shelf."

But others admitted they were already feeling stressed out about affording Christmas.

"Honestly the stress is real this year," one wrote.

"I'm so dreading Christmas."

"A lot of people are babe," Poppy replied.

"As long as your kids are fed and loved that’s all that matters."

"Crying into the toy catalog figuring it out," another sighed.
