I hated my dark & gloomy spare room so fixed it up on a budget with a lick of pain and DIY panelling using cheap MDF | The Sun

A WOMAN has revealed how she transformed her dark and gloomy spare room on a budget.

Sharing the transformation on her TikTok account @bethanyhome_ the DIY whizz revealed how she gave the room a new lease of life.

She shared the clip with the caption: "DIY bedroom makeover."

In the video, Bethany showed what the room in her home looked like before the makeover.

The dark blue walls and beige carpet did nothing to add any light to the room.

She said: "This was the spare bedroom when we moved in, and I'm not gonna lie, I absolutely hated it.

"We couldn't justify spending much, so we decided to do it up on a budget."

First, the savvy DIYer ripped the skirting off the walls and whitewashed the walls to cover the dark paint using a mix of cheap white paint mixed with water.

They then replaced the skirting themselves before adding panelling to the walls.

She purchased MDF strips and a dado rail from B&Q to create the panelled feature wall.

The most expensive part of the transformation was the carpet, which Bethany replaced with a chic, fluffy grey one.

They painted the walls with two different shades of beige and showed off the final results.

Bethany revealed she got the colours matched at B&Q using farrow & ball Jitney & School House White as inspiration.

She added a striking grey bedframe from Dreams, white bedside tables, lamps from H&M, and a white radiator cover.

"That's the end result. I think it's so much better," Bethany exclaimed.

The video has since gone viral with over 112k views and over 3,300 likes.

People quickly took to the comments section to share their thoughts and many loved the new look of the bedroom.
