I tried Matalan's closing down sale & found kids Christmas essential for £1.50 – there's gifts from 50p too | The Sun

MATALAN is holding a huge closing down sale after announcing that it is pulling the plug on one of its stores.

The fashion retailer, which has 250 shops across the UK, revealed in August that its clearance store in Renfrew is closing down.

The branch in Blythswood Retail Park will shut for good later this month.

As a result, Matalan has launched a massive sale on all items – with already discounted items slashed even further.

I visited the Renfrew branch to see what home and fashion essentials were available at cheap prices.

I was not disappointed – with some items on sale for as little as 50p.

And there's the perfect pieces for parents getting organised for the festive season.

I found adorable kids Christmas essentials for just £1.50.

The festive babygrows are ideal for the lead up to December 25 for both little boys and little girls.

There are a range of colours and styles on the sale racks, with one grey babygrow reading: "Dear Santa, I've been very, very good".

While another is cream and covered in beige reindeers, stockings and mistletoe.

I also spotted an adorable red baby's outfit, covered in stars, with gold writing on the front which reads "A Christmas Wish".

It sat next to a white babygrow with little Santas, Rudolfs, Christmas puddings and snowmen on it.

All the outfits were on offer from £7 down to just £1.50.

A super-cute white baby Christmas onesie was also on sale.

The white long-sleeved outfit has "Merry & Bright" written across the front in multi-coloured letters.

And it was on offer at half price – just £3 instead of £6.

There was a range of other items on sale too – including baby shoes at £3.50 instead of £7.50.

And bargain hunters can pick up discounted home essentials that could even work as Christmas presents.

White and gold coasters with letters in the middle were down to just 50p.

Meanwhile, punters could grab a huge black bamboo frame mirror for just £14.

The mirror is part of the store's Ibiza trend and features a loop at the top to allow for easy hanging.

It comes in a classic round shape and is finished with a sturdy and pretty frame – making it the perfect item to spruce up your interior.

Anybody looking for a bargain will need to be quick, as the store closes for the final time on September 30.

Announcing the sad news, Matalan staff said last month: "As many of you may have now heard out Matalan Clearance store here in Renfrew will be closing down.

"Our last day will be Saturday 30th September.

"We would like to thank you all for your custom over the years and hope to see many of you in store before we close."

Shoppers were left "heartbroken" at the shock closure and rushed to social media with an outpouring of comments.

One wrote: "Such a shame to be losing this shop. We've had many great bargains over the years."

Another said: "Gutted. I’ve been visiting every couple of weeks and picked up some great stuff."

A third added: "I'm heartbroken."
