OWNING a home doesn't always have to wear out your pockets if you're crafty enough.
Homeowners have shared their tips on how they've transformed their kitchens in simple steps without breaking the bank.
A Reddit user said repainting their kitchen cabinets was "the best decision ever" to help spruce up their living space.
"It's simple too – all you have to do is clean them, scuff them up with sandpaper, prime them, and paint with two coats."
The user said they only paid $100 for the project.
"I use roller and brush on the frame/box. Just tape around the edges then brush the small details and roll any big area," the continued.

"The boxes have very little visible surface so no one can really tell how you paint them. It's the doors that are most visible and need to look the best.
'TRIVIAL' UPGRADES
Not every upgrade has to be a complete renovation or total transformation. Sometimes even a small addition can create a big difference in a home.
User Beley replaced the "super cheap" outlet and light switch covers in their home with ceramic and stones ones.
"I've done so many little upgrades, but the ones that bring me joy are the trivial ones that I notice every day," they said.

Changing the outlet switches made "such a huge difference."
The user added: "Still blows my mind that the people who built our house use so many builder grade products in the first place."
INSTANTLY FANCY
Another simple trick that works in both the kitchen and bathroom is switching out your soap dispenser bottles.
"This is so tiny, but using amber glass bottles with pumps instead of the disposable plastic bottles that soap and shampoo come in makes our bathroom (and kitchen) instantly look fancier," wrote Cleodora.
You can buy a two-pack of amber glass soap dispensers on Amazon for $20.
These bottles can be used for soap, shampoo, lotions and essential oils, according to the listing.
LIGHT IT UP
If you're looking for a way to brighten up your kitchen, try investing in LED light strips.
CountingSatellites on Reddit said they installed under-cabinet lights with a motion sensor in their kitchen.
"They're really nothing fancy and they plug into an outlet, so there's no need to hardwire anything," they wrote.
"Other than that, they're completely hidden. It makes the kitchen a lot more pleasant to work in."
HARDWARE UPGRADE
Sometimes, all you really need to liven up your kitchen is a simple hardware upgrade.
User ShieraBlackwood said they did just that with their older cabinets and claims the project was "so worth it."
"I didn't know how much I cared about those drawer pulls until I installed some that I really loved."
