A PROFESSIONAL cleaner has debunked five common myths – including why white vinegar isn’t as effective as you might think.
So if you use newspapers to wipe your windows, swear by furnish polish for your wooden table and always make your bed as soon as you wake up, you’ll need to listen up.
The self-employed cleaner, from Bright Touch Cleaning, has revealed that toilet cleaning tablets aren’t always safe and effective and shared her simple tip to ensure that your bed remains dust mite free.
Sharing her expertise and top tips on social media, the cleaning whizz said: “Five cleaning myths debunked.”
Myth one – Always polish your furniture
The expert first explained that you shouldn’t always rely on furniture polish for wooden furniture.
She advised: “Save the furniture polish for when you really need it. It shouldn’t be polished very often.

“Also be careful when choosing cleaning products for your wooden furniture. Some leave a waxy layer of silicone.
“Be sure to use a silicone free wax polish.
“Use a duster to clean your furniture. Synthetic dusters are no good as they move the dust back into the air as opposed to trapping it.
“Microfibre dusters/cloths are a good choice.”

Myth two – You should make your bed as soon as you wake up
As well as this, the cleaning whizz revealed why you shouldn’t make your bed first thing in the morning.
She continued: “Dust mites love the warmth of a bed, so it’s always important to let your sheets cool down before making it.
“Pull back your covers to air them out for around half an hour.”
Myth three – Use a newspaper to clean windows
Not only this, but the cleaning fan then set the record straight on why newspaper isn’t always the answer when it comes to cleaning windows.
She said: “Not only does newspaper disintegrate fast, I’ve found that wet newspaper makes more of a mess and leaves mess on your hands and the window frames.
“A microfibre cloth, followed by using a window buffing cloth works better for me.”
Myth four – Toilet cleaning tablets are safe and effective
If you use toilet cleaning tablets to get your loo sparkling, you might want to have a re-think.
The expert claimed: “Toilet tablets can cause major damage and over time, can corrode the working parts inside the toilet tank.”
Myth five – Vinegar can clean anything
Finally, if you’re on board with the TikTok trend of using white vinegar to clean your home, it’s time you listened up.
The cleaning fan concluded: “Vinegar is an acid and although it’s great for cleaning some things, it can also cause erosion on many other hard surfaces.
“Always do your research before attempting to clean a new surface in your home.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @brighttouchcleaning, has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly amassed 11,000 views.
