I’m a traveller girl, there are 8 superstitions we believe that baffle country folk – I’d never cut my nails on a Sunday | The Sun

WE all have weird superstitions from never standing on a cracked floor to walking over three drains.

But one woman has shared the superstitions she grew up with living in the traveller community – and some have left country folk baffled.

Taking to social media, Suzy shared eight superstitions she has brought up with in her family.

She started by explaining they never say the word 'rat' or 'monkey' as they believe it to be bad luck.

Instead they call the animals longtails or ringtails.

"We just say anything other than the actual name of those animals," she added.

Suzy revealed it was also common to not eat meat when a family member had died.

This superstition will go on until their loved one has been buried.

Continuing with the subject of death – Suzy added that for very close family members you are expected to wear black for 12 months to signify mourning.

Another common superstition within the traveller community was to not have wreaths hanging on the door – although this wasn't one Suzy grew up with.

Suzy said it was also very important within the community to have a very clean home.

"If you're not 'drop in' ready (at any given time) you're gonna be talked about," she said.

Suzy has also been brought up to not mix cleaning clothes, so would never use the cloth for the kitchen in the bathroom or vice versa.

She also never cleans the clothes in the washing machine – preferring to use a specific pot to do so.

Brushing your hair in the kitchen is also a no-go with Suzy saying it was 'disgusting.'

Finally, she said it was bad luck to cut your hair or nails on a Sunday.

The clip posted to her TikTok account @cuzinsuzy92 has since gone viral with over 40k views and 2,000 likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments.

One person wrote: "Never heard of the meat one before but all rest I was brought up with the same beliefs."

"I love your beliefs," penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: "Everything you said I agree hundred percent and do it."
