Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas says life is ‘strange’ living in Meghan Markle’s shadow

PRINCE Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas said life is “strange” living in Meghan Markle’s shadow.

Actress Cressida, who is currently starring in ITV’s White House Farm, lifted the lid on her relationship with the royal prince, which ended six years ago.

Cressida, 30, dated Prince Harry, 35, for two years between 2012 and 2014, and said she understands how many people are fascinated by their relationship.

The actress says how she refuses to judge Meghan, 38, out of “respect” and she remained tight-lipped when asked about getting invited to their royal wedding in May 2018.

She told ES Magazine: “I wouldn’t take a position on that because it would be a headline. I want to talk about my work.

"And also out of respect. What’s the expression? How would I feel if the shoe was on the other foot and it was an ex talking about me?"

Cressida is now engaged to London-based property developer Harry Wentworth-Stanley, who it is believed she first met when they were students at Leeds University.

She reflected: "It feels like a long time ago, so when it comes up it feels strange because I’m in a very different place now – I’m getting married, I’ve learned a lot. I’m much more comfortable in my own skin. I’m growing."

Cressida and Prince Harry met after they were introduced by Princess Eugenie in May 2012, although they had a rocky patch after Harry was infamously pictured naked in Las Vegas.

The prince reportedly frequently wrote to Cressida while serving in Afghanistan in late 2012 and they got back together in 2013, and were pictured at a number of functions together.

Cressida and Prince Harry suffered a wobble in their relationship after seeing her future brother-and-sister-in-law travel around New Zealand and Australia in 2014 with their eight-month-old son.

She described the moment as a "wake up call", realising this was the life she would have if she stayed with Harry, according to Katie Nicholl, author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love.

"Cressida had been 'completely spooked' while watching TV coverage of William, Kate and George touring New Zealand and Australia that spring," Katie wrote.

"There was no way she wanted that sort of attention and she told Harry so."

The biographer claims a pal told her Prince Harry didn't want things to end as he was "in love with her".

"He tried to convince her they could make it work, but Cressida’s mind was made up," she wrote.

"Harry suffered a real blow when she said, ‘I can’t do this'. I think she really broke his heart.”

Katie continued: "Twice [Harry] had been left heartbroken because the women he had fallen in love with didn’t want to share the life he had been born into," referring to his ex Chelsy Davy, who also decided the life of a royal bride "was not for her".

It feels like a long time ago, so when it comes up it feels strange because I’m in a very different place now – I’m getting married, I’ve learned a lot

Speaking of her upcoming wedding to Harry Wentworth-Stanley, Cressida said: “I won't have a huge wedding, that's not really us.

“We aren't traditional people, even though Harry [Wentworth-Stanley] proposed in a traditional way – I've never thought about how someone would propose to me. And I don't want a meringue dress. People look beautiful in them but I don't think I would."

Cressida is starring as serial killer Jeremy Bamber's schizophrenic sister Sheila “Bambi” Caffell, who he tried to pin his murders on.
