Queen Letizia looked stunning in a blue floor-length gown and a black faux fur coat by Spanish designer Varela.
The Spanish monarch combined the outfit with navy platform pumps from Magrid, Bulgari earrings and her signature gold ring by Karen Hallam.
Queen Letizia styled her hair in a neat bun and wore natural makeup with a dash of mascara.
For the occasion, the mother-of-two decided to adorn her beautiful dress with the Queen Ena brooch, an iconic piece of jewellery made of pearls and diamonds.
This is not the first time the monarch wears Queen Ena’s grey pearl drop brooch, however.
In fact, she chose the same brooch for the Pascua Militar last year, the annual new year military parade in Madrid.
The jewel is part of the ‘joyas de pasar’ collection.
These are the pieces that Queen Ena decided to pass from monarch to monarch in Spain.
Queen Ena, or Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, was the Scottish-born maternal granddaughter to Queen Victoria.
Queen Letizia’s stunning piece features a large pale grey pearl surrounded by diamonds and a pear-shaped pearl suspended from the diamond frame.
Before Queen Letizia, the most recent royal to wear the brooch was Queen Sofia, her mother in law.
Following Queens Ena’s request, the former Spanish monarchs, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, could only use the collection until his abdication.
King Juan Carlos abdicated in 2014 when he also passed Queen Ena’s jewellery collection to his son King Felipe and Queen Letizia could finally wear the design.
During the military parade which took place on January 6, the beautiful brooch fell from Letizia’s dress.
Her husband King Felipe VI quickly helped her recover the jewel as they walked towards the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Claire Adler, founder of Claire Adler Luxury PR, commented: “This beautiful brooch is known as Queen Ena’s grey pearl drop brooch. A delicate grey pearl is encircled by two rows of brilliant diamonds and a pearl pendant is suspended from it. In fact, a photograph of Queen Ena in the 1920s shows she wore this entire brooch in the form of a necklace pendant.
“The most prized jewels often have an in-built versatility and can be worn in different ways or they can be easily adjusted and altered so they can be re-styled to suit the needs of the wearer. A necklace becomes a tiara, just as easily as sometimes a pendant like this one once was, can become a pendant. Queen Letizia’s mother-in-law Queen Sofia has also worn this brooch.”
Many royal fans took to social media to comment on the monarch’s fashion choice.
Instagram user @9413_annie commented: “Just love that the king picked up the brooch.
“What a honey of a man! Gentleman! Beautiful couple!”
