A WOMAN has shared a simple trick for softening avocados that are too hard to eat – and all you need is a paper bag.
Veronica Cannady, 31, from New York came up with the hack, which involves simply placing the fruits in a brown bag and storing it somewhere dark for two days.
“I hate waiting for avocados to get soft and knew there had to be a better way,” Veronica told Jam Press.
“Avocados have a hormone called ethylene which occurs in fruits and triggers them to ripen.
“Putting the avocados in a brown bag causes that ethylene to become trapped.
“You place the avocado in a paper bag and put it somewhere dark – the oven or microwave is best.
“I love it – no more waiting weeks for a ripe avocado.”
She shared the tip on TikTok, filming herself going through the steps to achieving a perfectly ripe avocado and banana, with the clip racking up 13,000 views and over 1,200 likes.

After leaving the fruits covered and in the oven for two days, she mashed it up in a bowl – revealing a perfectly ripened avocado.
Veronica previously went viral for her “must try” tip that keeps avocados fresher for longer.
Demonstrating how it works in a TikTok video, she dips the leftover avocado half – leaving the seed still attached – into a cup of water, and stores it in the fridge.
She says: “So ever since I learned from TikTok that you can put avocados inside of water and put them in the refrigerator to preserve them and keep them from turning brown, I’ve never stopped doing it. Definitely recommend.”
Veronica claims this helps prevent the fruit from turning brown before she has a chance to eat it.
She has found that the avocados can be stored for two days and remain at perfect freshness.
After sharing the clip on TikTok, the video racked up more than 780,000 likes and was viewed 10 million times – with viewers calling it a “must try” tip.
