More than half of people think the Duke of York’s two daughters should be removed from the line of succession, a MailOnline survey has found.
A Deltapoll survey commissioned by MailOnline quizzed pollsters on who should stay in the line of succession, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the late Queen’s granddaughters didn’t fare too well.
Around 57 per cent of those questioned said they would take Eugenie, 33, and Beatrice, 35, from the current line of succession.
The number of major royals has been pared down significantly in recent years with neither Beatrice or Eugenie on the royal balcony for Trooping the Colour in June, with just 14 family members waving to crowds, compared to 40 four years ago.
Princess Beatrice, 35, and Princess Eugenie, 33, pictured at Westminster Abbey for the late Queen’s funeral in 2022; neither is considered a major royal since the Windsors pared down – and a MailOnline poll found 57 per cent of those questioned think the siblings shouldn’t remain on the succession line
Beatrice and Eugenie receive no income from the Sovereign Grant, the government-funded £82.2 million that covers Royal Household salaries as they aren’t on any official royal engagement rosters.
This means they have had jobs outside of the The Firm, but this hasn’t stopped them from having busy social schedules often getting snapped at parties and on foreign holidays.
Earlier this year, Eugenie and Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson praised her daughters as ‘great working mothers’.
Speaking on her podcast Tea Talk, the Duchess of York, 63, said Beatrice – who shares daughter Sienna and stepson Wolfie with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – and Eugenie, who shares sons August and Ernie with husband Jack Brooksbank – work ‘very very hard’ and that she’s ‘very proud of them’.
The sisters, who share a close friendship, receive no income from the Sovereign Grant, and were praised by their mother, the Duchess of York earlier this year for being ‘great working mums’
The princesses’ father also fared less well in the survey. Around 77 per cent of those questioned said they would omit Prince Andrew, who was removed from royal duties in January 2022 with the late Queen’s approval following the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Some 61 per cent of those questioned suggested the Duke of Sussex should also be removed.
The Prince and Princess of Wales appeared to win the succession popularity contest. Around 70 per cent of people are happy that Kate Middleton will one day be Queen Consort to King William.
The poll found that the majority of those questioned think that both the Prince and Princess of Wales should stay firmly in the line of succession, with three-quarters of people asked believing Prince William should take to the throne when his father dies.
On behalf of MailOnline, Deltapoll interviewed 2,009 British adults online between 1st to 4th September 2023.
The Deltapoll survey for MailOnline found that the Princess of Wales ranks amongst the most popular royals, with 70 per cent of those questioned saying they wouldn’t remove her from the line of succession to be come Queen Consort
