Facegym review: quick summary

Since I hit my 30s last year, I’ve been on the search for the best anti-ageing products, and have used collagen to help reduce early signs of ageing and maintain a youthful glow. 

After all, research suggests that collagen production declines in our late 20s and production may stop in our early 30s.

I have been on a very strict skincare routine since suffering from acne a few years back, but I’ve been suffering from some hyperpigmentation and my skin has been looking a bit tired lately. 

However, this gadget has been a game changer. 

You can visibly see results from the first use and after using it for over a month, my skin has been glowing and looking more lifted. 

The Medi Lift has six modes of intensity and three different workouts: HIIT Workout, Jaw Definer Mode and Cheek Sculptor Mode. Each is is extremely easy to use, though I’d recommend starting with the lowest mode of intensity. 

It’s important to note that you should also have a look the Facegym site as there are a few contraindications worth checking over. For example, if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure or skin cancer you should not use this device. Check the site for the full list. 

If you’ve had botox, you should wait two weeks before using the device and if you’ve had fillers you should wait four weeks.

What is Face Gym?

Facegym is a fitness-for-your-face brand founded by Inge Theron. 

Our face is made up of more than 40 muscles, and Facegym believes we need to ensure that we train our face the same way as our body to prevent sagging.

The brand’s website claims that you can see results after 10 minutes of using the Medi Lift, and that if you use the device long term, it will keep the muscles lifted and toned. The website also states that Medi Lift can improve firmness and give a revitalised complexion. 

You can also book a trial session at a Facegym studio before making the investment, which I recommend you do if you live near one. There are several studios across London including Canary Wharf, King’s Cross and Notting Hill, as well as venues in Manchester and Oxford.

First impressions

The delivery and presentation of the Medi Lift was great. Inside the box was the silicone mask and two electrical muscle stimulation probes, a Collagen Infusion Serum, a USB Charging cable, an extender band and a very easy-to-read user manual. 

In the manual and on its website, Facegym states that a generous amount of the collagen activator gel-primer needs to be used, and I’m glad that a 30ml bottle of the collagen serum was sent instead of the 15ml as it lasts a long time. 

I was impressed by the quality of the mask, which I later found out was made from medical-grade silicone, preventing any skin irritations. 

The collagen serum felt great on the skin and the probes are spaced perfectly so that they rest on your jaws and cheeks.

Performance

The Medi Lift is easy to use; you simply scan the QR code and follow the instructions. 

I quickly read through the manual and ensured the two probes were fully charged, then cleansed my skin and patted my face dry with a clean towel. Then it was time for my first workout. 

I applied a generous amount of the Collaged Infusion Serum to my lower face and added a tiny amount of serum to the three electrodes on each probe.

Then I placed the mask on my face, adjusted the straps for a perfect fit and chose the first 10-min workout (a HIIT workout) by clicking on the power button on each probe. 

If you want to change the workout, you simply press again. You can distinguish each workout by the colour: purple is a HIIT workout, blue is a jaw definer workout and red is the cheek-sculptor workout.

As it was my first time, I started off with the lowest intensity. I’ll admit, at the beginning it felt slightly strange being strapped in, but it is important to ensure that the electrode points are touching the skin so the mask can feel extremely tight. 

The EMS was forcing my eyes to shut and twitch but you could get used to the feeling quite quickly, and I could instantly feel the workout alternating between the jaw and cheeks. The best way to describe it is as a deep tissue massage but for your face. 

The probes beep once the 10-minute workout is finished, and once it was complete, I massaged any excess serum into my skin and finished my evening skincare regimen. 

After the first workout, my face looked less puffy and much brighter, but the most prominent results came after the second week of use, when I increased the intensity level to two.

After using the mask for over five weeks, my face looks firmer, brighter and the texture of my skin looks much smoother. 

Because it’s so easy to use, it was easy to make the Medi Lift part of my skincare routine every other evening. I also loved using the Collaged Infusion Serum as it’s full of active ingredients such as plant-based collagen, hyaluronic acid and pro vitamin B5 which are all vital ingredients for plumping and boosting moisture levels in the skin.

How much is Facegym?

The Facegym Medi Lift is £460.00, which is admittedly a lot of money. 

That means it’s definitely a self-care splurge, but it’s worth taking into account the fact that Facegym’s in-studio “workouts” cost anywhere from £90 for the “Signature Sculpt” treatment up to £275 for the “Radio Frequency” workout.

The verdict: Is Facegym worth it?

The Medi Lift is certainly expensive, but I think it’s worth the money. 

I made the commitment of using it 10 minutes a day, every other day for five weeks, and the device has exceeded my expectation. 

If you’re looking to upgrade your skincare routine, this is a tool that you should invest in. You see results from the first use. 

It’s important to use it regularly, and incorporate into your routine for maximum results. I loved how I was able to change workout types easily, which allowed me to target specific areas.
