AWARDS
At the mere age of 18 years old, Vance Walker has been named the Season 15 winner of “American Ninja Warrior,” making him the first-ever winner with cerebral palsy.
On Tuesday, Walker became the third-ever contestant to walk away with the coveted $1 million prize which is only awarded to contestants who advance through all four stages of the national finals and climb the 75-foot Mt. Midoriyama rope in less than 30 seconds.
Walker was diagnosed with a rare form of cerebral palsy (spastic diplegia) at 18 months, forcing him to wear leg braces throughout his childhood. His parents were originally told Walker would never be able to walk without said braces, with him still engaging in routine physical therapy appointments and stretching to maintain the condition.
“It’s amazing to be able to live out your dream, especially when everyone said you’d never be able to,” Walker said. “In the words of Post Malone, ‘They said I wouldn’t be nothing, now they always say congratulations.’”
Ahead of competing on the 15th season of “American Ninja Warrior,” Walker previously won “American Ninja Warrior Junior” twice in its first two seasons. He made his debut on the mainstay series during Season 13, going on to place third overall.
