Dr Amir: Tips for dealing with hair loss
Spotting clumps of hair sitting on top of a shower drain can be alarming. For those who’ve typed the phrase, hair falling out in shower, they’re not alone because no one likes the idea of hair falling out in the shower – or anywhere else.
But before panicking, people should be aware that they may not have anything to worry about. The truth is, a certain amount of hair loss in the shower is totally normal.
However, for those concerned about the amount of hair they’re losing, haircare experts at Pantene have shared how to “reduce” the amount by washing “effectively”.
1. Avoid brushing wet hair in the shower
Hair is in its “weakest and most fragile” state when it is wet. So, for those who think it’s okay to brush wet hair right before they apply their shampoo, the experts said: “We suggest you stop this practice, as it can severely damage your hair.”
They claimed that this is “one of the major causes of hair fall” during hair wash. Apart from that, it can also lead to another frightening issue – breakage.

2. Don’t use hot water for washing your hair
Spending time in a hot shower can feel amazing, but it can have “adverse effects” on the hair.
The hot water washes the scalp oil off the head and opens the pores, making hair “frail and causing hair loss”.
So, the “best way” is to use lukewarm water and then wash it off with cold water.
3. Never skip conditioner
Some may think that using a conditioner is not always necessary. However, it is quite the contrary.

The experts warned: “Never skip conditioner. Without a conditioner, your hair becomes tangled, dry, and prone to falling out.
“To beat it all, you need a good conditioner, that can make your hair stronger, reduce breakage, and most importantly, reduce hair fall during hair wash.”
4. Use a pre-shampoo deep conditioner
Most commonly people would think to only use conditioner after shaping their hair, however, it can be beneficial to use a conditioner before shampooing.
The experts said: “It is advisable to use a pre-shampoo deep conditioner before going ahead with shampoo to help you detangle your hair easily and give it more protection.”
5. Pick the right shampoo
Picking the right shampoo is important to avoid hair loss, but it can be a challenging task.
The “first rule” when it comes to choosing an anti-hair fall shampoo is to know what your hair type is. For example, types of hair could either be oily, dry, damaged, or normal.
The experts said: “You can think of choosing one from the wide range of Pantene Hairfall Control shampoos. For dry hair, get the Pantene Silky Smooth Care shampoo. For oily hair, try the Lively Clean shampoo.
“If you have damaged hair, get your hands on the Pantene Total Damage Care shampoo. Why? It’s because their fermented rice water and the patented Pro-Vitamin formula promise to end your hair fall worries, helping you flaunt fabulous, moisturised locks.”
