Since leaving office in January, former president Donald Trump has been living in his own private living quarters at Mar-a-Lago, separate from those of his wife, and spending his days plotting a comeback (via CNN). According to sources close to the former president who spoke with CNN on condition of anonymity, Trump spends his mornings on the golf course, taking calls from his golf cart, and then spends the remainder of the day inside, determining who will be his allies and will be he foes when he attempts to reassert himself as head of the Republican Party. As of now, he plans to run for president in 2024, and is working ardently to remain in the spotlight as he looks ahead.
He will make a public appearance this coming weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference, ensuring no one in the party could make the mistake of believing he is falling back or is content with becoming irrelevant.
Trump meets with head of RNC
Trump is expected to wield a massive presence during the 2022 election season, and a source told CNN that Trump is likely to rely heavily on his family to help drum up support, saying, “Once 2022 kicks into high gear, expect Don [Trump Jr.] to be an extremely active presence on the campaign trail.” Former President Trump has also been holding meetings with big wigs in the Republican party, meeting just days ago with Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, according to The Washington Post. The publication went so far as to say that McDanial is “trying to hold together a party that Donald Trump might want to tear up.”
While we don’t know what was discussed during this meeting, The Washington Post says, McDaniel is facing leading the Republican party after it lost the House, the Senate and the White House, while supporters are still deciding how the former president fit into their election strategy. Whether she decides to back Trump or denounce him has yet to be seen, but one thing is for certain: Trump will not go gentle into that good night.
